Del Rio Experiences Increase in Haitian Immigration

Release Date: October 20, 2020

DEL RIO, Texas –The Del Rio Sector has seen a rise in immigrants crossing illegally into the United States from countries all across the globe.

“Smugglers are despicable criminals who spread false information that upon entry, these people will be released into our communities,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Aside from special circumstances, they are prosecuted or returned to their country of origin as soon as possible.”

Since Oct. 1, Del Rio Sector has apprehended over 1,800 subjects illegally crossing our borders, from 26 different countries. Citizens of Haiti comprised over 450 of those apprehensions.

Due to policies enacted by Title 42, Border Patrol agents rapidly encounter, process, and expel those illegally entering the U.S. back to their countries of origin for the health and safety of the population.

To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
