Denver Declares Itself a Sanctuary City 6 Months After an Illegal Alien Murders a Resident

Despite having a pretty crappy track record of releasing dangerous criminal aliens back onto their streets, only to have them go on to commit even more crimes, the city of Denver is reaffirming its commitment to flouting federal immigration law and protecting undocumented aliens. At taxpayer expense, of course.

According to this, Denver officials are thumbing their nose at recent threats by the Trump administration to pull federal funding from cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials that seek to take custody of criminal aliens for deportation proceedings.

The Denver City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Monday declaring the city’s law enforcement is banned from inquiring into a person’s immigration status during arrests, and adding that the city will refuse to honor immigration detainers placed on illegal aliens who’ve been jailed for a crime.

"Denver is sending a clear and resolute message to our community that we stand with the immigrant and refugee communities and are committed to remaining a city that is safe and welcoming for all," Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said, adding, “Denver is building a trusting relationship with our immigrant and refugee communities that will improve the safety of our city and help everyone feel more secure.”

Everyone, that is, except for law-abiding residents like 32-year-old Tim Cruz, who was murdered at a Denver light rail station by a 19-year-old illegal alien gang member from Mexico named Ever Valles back in February. Valles had been released by Denver authorities just seven weeks prior to the murder, after being held on multiple charges including possession of a weapon, vehicle theft and eluding.

Federal immigration officials noted that they’d placed a detainer on Valles while he was still incarcerated, but that their request had been ignored by Denver police.

On top of flipping the proverbial bird to our nation’s immigration laws, Hancock added he plans to establish a publicly-funded legal defense fund for illegal aliens, as well as programs to promote family reunification for illegal aliens whose family members reside in other countries.
