HILLSBORO -- With sentences set by law, Washington County Circuit Judge Marco Hernandez could slap two gang members only with bitter reality after a jury found them guilty of third-degree assault and not guilty of attempted murder in a near-fatal stabbing.

"What a waste," Hernandez railed. "The only good news out of all of this is that somebody didn't die."

On Friday, Hernandez sentenced Luis Arnoldo Barragan, 22, of Southwest Portland to 18 months in prison, based on previous convictions for first-degree theft, third-degree assault and stealing a car.

With no prior violent felony convictions but two for stealing cars and one for second-degree theft, Jose Fransisco Chavez Rodriguez, 21, of Aloha was sentenced to three years' probation.

Both are undocumented immigrants and will be deported to Mexico.

"You're breaking their hearts," Hernandez told Chavez Rodriguez and Barragan, referring to family members who sat in the back of the courtroom as they had through the six-day trial.

"And you have brothers and sisters younger than you?" Hernandez said.

"You are their heroes. They are going to follow you right into prison, they are going to get involved in this garbage like you did.

"It is tragic for them to watch. It is tragic for us to watch. It is tragic for the community to watch."

Barragan and Chavez Rodriguez, members of the Brown Crowd Rifa, kicked and punched Carlos Verdugo Diaz during an Oct. 17 attack on Southwest Larch Place near Menlo Drive in Beaverton.

Nicasio Nieves Gonzalez, 22, of Hillsboro will be sentenced Monday to at least 71/2 years in prison after jurors found him guilty of first-degree assault, third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon against another. Nieves chased Verdugo with his car but stayed at the vehicle during the attack, yelling at the others, "Kill him, kill him!" in Spanish.

Miguel Chavez Guzman, 19, of Beaverton admitted stabbing Verdugo with a kitchen knife he took from a party after seeing his gang's supposed rival standing outside. Chavez Guzman testified against the others at trial and was sentenced Friday to 71/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree assault.

Noting that Barragan is the father of a 1-month-old baby born while he was in jail for gang violence, Hernandez asked, "How can you possibly conceive that it is OK?"

"I know," Barragan replied, choking back tears. "That was my mistake."

Chavez Rodriguez declined comment.

Betcha' traitorous GW Bush, Senators Ted Kennedy and Nebraska's disgusting putrid vile pro-invasion senator Chuck Hagel don't have to live in the same neighborhood as murderous illegal alien gang bangers.

It's okay for us commoners to be forced to live amongst a disgusting perverted invading culture but.......

Heaven FORBID that our extra-special wonderful elite class have to put up with what they expect us to adore, embrace........ die from.

The invaders are our enemy and so is the ruling elite that encourages the ongoing invasion.

This has been a pretty consistent theme in the paper lately. Gang bangers getting caught, getting deported. Illegal alien pervs and criminals getting convicted and deported.

I have seen stories like this in the paper weekly, and this is just in Portland vicinity, notwithstanding Salem, Eugene, and on like that.

Good riddance! Do you know if they are deported and then set free in Mexico? (In which case, they will be back in the United States faster than we can say lickety-split). Or once deported are they in Mexico's custody?

Still convicting them and deporting them and not sending them to jail is saving us huge dollars. If and when we secure our borders this will work.

We need our Wall of Americans so they can not re-enter the United States.
