DHS Partners Apprehend 26 Offshore in 24 Hours

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—U.S. Border Patrol agents working in coordination with DHS Regional Coordinating Mechanism (ReCoM) partners arrested 26 people off the Pacific Coast associated with maritime smuggling in a 24-hour period.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, Sept. 9, at around 6:30 p.m., when the United States Coast Guard encountered a panga-style vessel approximately one mile west of Mission Bay. Coast Guard detained the vessel and its 19 occupants. They contacted the U.S. Border Patrol, which took custody of the individuals for further investigation.

Border Patrol determined that all 19 occupants, including the individual operating the panga, were Mexican nationals illegally present in the U.S. The 15 men, three women and one 15-year-old juvenile male were all arrested in that incident. The panga operator is currently in DHS custody and faces human smuggling charges.

About 24 hours later, in the early morning hours of Sept. 10, ReCoM partners intercepted a pleasure craft with seven people on board. Agents determined that two were Chinese nationals and five were Mexican nationals and all had entered the United States illegally. All were males and were taken to a U.S. Border Patrol station for processing. One of the Mexican men in custody faces human smuggling charges for this event.

In the last 17 days, the U.S. Border Patrol in coordination with the ReCoM have apprehended 54 illegal aliens including 6 suspected human smugglers in five separate maritime events. Over the last 10 years, ReCoM maritime operations have accounted for over 5,000 arrests and the seizure of more than 554,000 pounds of drugs.

Maritime smuggling is extremely dangerous as Transnational Criminal Organizations prioritize monetary gain over the wellbeing of those they attempt to smuggle. Smugglers often overcrowd small, open vessels, and in the cases where personal flotation devices are provided, these are often unsafe and insufficient. Unpredictable sea and surf conditions, visibility, and weather are not important considerations to smugglers. Smugglers place an emphasis on profits over their victim’s safety by placing them in unpredictable and unsafe conditions.

You've been given other reasons why your proposal is a non-starter but you refused to listen. Perhaps you'll listen this time.

Sanctions seldom work because countries are not isolated from the rest of the world and cutting off trade would actually hurt American farmers, ranchers, businesses, etc. more than it hurts the countries your attempting to halt trading with. So, if you want Trump to lose the support of American businesses, just cut off trade to Mexico and Central America! Try that and you'll hear more squealing than you ever thought possible and Trump will gain more enemies. The Trump administration knows this, that's another reason your so-called "Plan B" is a non-starter. Also, manufacturing businesses will have to cut back on production of goods, which means lost jobs. That is contrary to what Trump is trying to do.

Last, but far from least, Mexico and Central America aren't the only countries illegals are coming from. Geez, they're coming from all over the world and many of them are entering through our porous southern border.

So no, what your proposing is not "So simple. So quick. So effective. So Cheap -- costs the US nothing."

Your plan is unworkable, so it's time to get over it and move on.

LOL!!! The other day the only reason you could come up with was the poor innocent citizens of these countries SUCKING US DRY AS A BONE, today you're worried about the GLOBALISTS??!! Oh my God, what is wrong with you? Trump doesn't care what globalist businesses think, he wants them to move their plants back to the US, that's why he's putting tariffs on everything everywhere.

See you still don't get trade. Our manufacturers will not be cutting back jobs in the US. They will have to build new plants here quickly or expand existing plants immediately to supply the American Market, if these bad countries don't stop their illegal immigration into the US. When we have trade deficits like we do with Mexico and China and South Korea and so many others, we lose with every dollar we spend with them. When we stop the spending that leaves the country, the spending is spent here and stays here, creating jobs in the US, not losing them.

I'd start the sanctions on the countries with the largest numbers nearest to US, which would be Mexico (1), El Salvador (2) Guatemala (3), Honduras (4), and Ecuador (9). These are the primary sources of illegal border crossers. Sure, there's some Bangladesh and Middle Easterners coming in through Mexico, but if Mexico is sanctioned, they would be sanctioned for non-Mexican nationals being smuggled into the US by Mexicans. The first goal is to stop the pedestrian and vehicle trafficking of illegal aliens and by illegal aliens over the Southern Border.

The other countries have illegal aliens coming in but not in as large of numbers and not necessarily over the Southern Border, they're coming in on ships through our ports or on visas and then over-staying their visa. The first priority is to stop illegal entry over the Southern Border. This is where the invasion is, and these 5 countries are the countries most responsible for that. We would probably exempt or waiver farm and food products, they usually do that to prevent hunger anywhere whether in our country or theirs. So you can still get your Mexican green onions and Guatemalan watermelons. They will probably also waiver oil and gas and other energy products so no one loses their gasoline, electricity or heat.

But everything else ... sure why not? This problem will be solved during the notice period or very soon after, so it hasn't hurt anyone except ILLEGAL ALIENS trying to enter the US in violation of US immigration law. Mexico will stop all of this. They need our business, far more than we need theirs. I'm truly shocked that you didn't already know this stuff, MW.
