DHS Whistleblower Almost Lost Custody of Her Child Due to Retaliation
by Debra Heine
June 13, 2015 - 1:07 pm
Taylor Johnson, a Department of Homeland Security whistleblower, testified Thursday that the “retaliation” against her for disclosing gross mismanagement, fraud and waste in a controversial visa program was so bad, she was told she couldn’t “carry or own a personal weapon,” a violation of her 2nd Amendment rights. Worse yet, she almost lost custody of her one-year-old child when a social worker was erroneously told that she had been terminated over a criminal offense.
Johnson, a senior special agent in the DHS Investigations division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, testified at a Senate hearing Thursday alongside other whistleblowers from several other agencies who claim to have faced similar reprisals.
Speaking before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Johnson told lawmakers she ran into trouble after investigating the fraud-ridden EB-5 program, which offers visas to investors.
Via Fox News:
She said she looked into the program over concerns about security risks, questioning whether visas were being approved with little scrutiny.
But Johnson said her managers began to hear complaints about her queries. Soon, she was removed from the investigation, and the case was closed.
From there, it got worse.
Johnson told the Senate Homeland Security Committee her “weapon and credentials” were taken, her government vehicle was confiscated, and her access to the building where she worked and government databases was revoked.
Further, she said, “I was told I couldn’t even carry or own a personal weapon, which is a constitutional rights violation.”
Johnson also asserted that when a social worker tried to verify her employment, the worker was told Johnson had been terminated over a “criminal offense.”
Choking up, Johnson testified, “I almost lost my 1-year-old-child.”
She wasn’t terminated, though. Instead, Johnson said she was told to report to another building that houses inmates and processes parolees. She said she was “held a hostage by my own agency.”
A DHS spokeswoman said they do not comment on “specific personnel matters” when asked for comment on Johnson’s claims. But the official claimed that the department takes whistleblower protection “very seriously.”
Whistleblower complaints of retaliation have skyrocketed during the Obama years.
Complaints of retaliation against whistleblowers in the federal government are increasing. The Office of Special Counsel said it has experienced an “unprecedented rise” in its caseload, with 5,200 complaints filed in fiscal 2014, a 17 percent increase from the previous year and a 30 percent rise from three years ago.
The VA is the leading source of complaints filed with the Office of Special Counsel, with 1,504 cases in fiscal 2014. The Defense Department is next, with 1,365 cases last year. The Department of Homeland Security is third, with 489.
In August of 2014, 47 of Obama’s own 73 inspectors general wrote to Congress complaining about this administration’s refusal to be transparent and open.

DHS Agent Says She Was Stripped Of Gun, Nearly Lost Daughter After Blowing Whistle On
DHS Agent Says She Was Stripped Of Gun, Nearly Lost Daughter After Blowing Whistle On Immigration Visa Program

A Department of Homeland Security agent testified Thursday that she nearly lost custody of her 1-year-old adopted daughter and was told that she could not own a personal firearm after she voiced concerns about a little known federal program that grants green cards to foreign investors.
Taylor Johnson, a senior special agent with a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), testified at a Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing alongside several other whistleblowers who claim they’ve faced retaliation for reporting wrongdoing in their agencies.
Johnson, an 11-year veteran of ICE, said she began investigating a U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) program called EB-5. The program grants green cards to foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in U.S. companies.
Johnson testified that during her investigation she uncovered and disclosed gross mismanagement and public corruption that posed “national security risks” and threatened public safety.
“Some of the violations investigated surrounding the project included bank and wire fraud, and I discovered ties to organized crime and high-ranking politicians and they received promotions that appeared to facilitate the program,” Johnson testified.
She said that during her investigation she “discovered that EB-5 applicants from China, Russia, Pakistan, Malaysia had been approved in as little as 16 days” and that case files “lacked the basic and necessary law enforcement queries.”
“I found over 800 operational EB-5 regional centers throughout the U.S.,” Johnson said, stating that she found this “disturbing” given that the U.S. allows only 10,000 EB-5 applications per year.
“I could not identify how USCIS was holding each regional center accountable or how they were tracked once they were inside the U.S.,” she added.
Johnson’s testimony comes as the EB-5 program is under intense scrutiny from a damning report released in March by DHS’ inspector general, John Roth. Roth’s report concluded that former USCIS director Alejandro Mayorkas, now the second-in-command at DHS, intervened in an “unprecedented” manner to help expedite EB-5 applications.
Some of those who Mayorkas was in contact with include Nevada U.S. Sen. Harry Reid and current Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe. Mayorkas met with Reid to discuss an EB-5 application for the Sands Casino, a Las Vegas casino which employed Reid’s son’s law firm.
Mayorkas was in routine contact with McAuliffe who aggressively pushed for EB-5 approval for his company, GreenTech Automotive. Hillary Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, was also involved in that deal.
It is unclear if Johnson investigated Mayorkas or any applications involving Reid or McAuliffe.
After receiving complaints from “high-ranking officials” at outside agencies, Johnson’s managers shut down her investigation, she testified. From there, she says she was “subjected to a significant amount of harassment and retaliation.”
Blowback started when she was escorted from her work desk and prohibited from accessing her case files or other personal records.
She also said that her service firearm and credentials were confiscated. But the gun grab went further.
“I was told I couldn’t even carry or own a personal weapon which is a constitutional rights violation,” Johnson said.
Johnson grew emotional during one part of her testimony when she discussed how the retaliation she faced hit home, literally.
“When an adoption social worker tried to contact and verify employment, she was told that I had been terminated for a criminal offense,” Johnson said, her voice shaky.
“I almost lost my 1-year-old child.”

Corporate culture is established at the top. The contempt that 'Bama has for ordinary Americans leads to people lower on the food chain expressing that same contempt. And the contempt makes it easy to ignore complaints about arbitrary behavior.

That agent is a HERO! God Bless Her and Keep Her Safe. She is a stand-up American, doing the job she's paid to do, and the DHS managers who complained, who took her gun, who lied to social workers about the status of her employment, and everyone else who had any hand in trying to stop her from doing her job or harming her in any way for doing it need to be fired, prosecuted, black-listed and sent to prison for many years.
This can not be tolerated in any agency at any level for any reason in the United States.
We know DHS is a totally corrupt incompetent Department, which is why it needed to be defunded, and still does.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Punishing whistle blowers is normal and ongoing thing in U.S. government that has went on for more than 50 years, that I've experienced from others. It is very difficult to fire a civil servant so they are eliminated through harassment. It is not right, but it is America's way.
