Donald Trump: I would have prevented 9/11

Donald Trump: I would have prevented 9/11

    By Eric Bradner, CNN

Updated 5:39 PM ET, Sun October 18, 2015

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump says he's not blaming George W. Bush for 9/11, but he claims that if he'd been president, the attacks never would have happened.

In an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," the real estate mogul said that since he's "extremely, extremely tough on immigration" the attackers wouldn't have been in position to commandeer U.S. flights.

"So there's a good chance that those people would not have been in our country," Trump said.

He took another shot at Jeb Bush for claiming that Bush's brother, the 43rd president, kept the nation safe.

"I'm not blaming George Bush," Trump said. "But I don't want Jeb Bush to say, 'My brother kept us safe,' because September 11 was one of the worst days in the history of this country."

It wasn't just on the Sunday shows that Trump attacked Bush over his brother's tenure.

On Twitter, as the "Fox News Sunday" interview aired, Trump tweeted: "Jeb, why did your brother attack and destabalize the Middle East by attacking Iraq when there were no weapons of mass destruction? Bad info?"

He also tweeted: "Jeb Bush should stop trying to defend his brother and focus on his own shortcomings and how to fix them."

Bush is pushing back against the criticism, which Trump has made repeatedly in recent days.

In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" Sunday, Bush defended his brother's presidency.

"My brother responded to a crisis, and he did it as you would hope a president would do. He united the country, he organized our country and he kept us safe. And there's no denying that. The great majority of Americans believe that," he said.

"And I don't know why he keeps bringing this up. It doesn't show that he's a serious person as it relates to being commander in chief and being the architect of a foreign policy," Bush added.

You don't know, because ... you're STUPID! He brings it up because you made the ridiculous statement that your brother kept US safe, when he didn't.

9/11 ... he's reading to third graders in your state of Florida instead of sitting at this station of responsibility in the Oval Office tending to our business ....

during Katrina, you're brother is out gallivanting around making speeches in San Diego and elsewhere, instead of manning his post in the Oval Office .....

in response to 9/11, your brother starts not one, but two wars, that still aren't over, that disrupted all stability in the Middle East that has since erupted into chaos ...

because you're so stupid that you don't realize that when American soldiers are killed in wars started on lies, when there were no WMDs in Iraq, there wasn't 1 Afghan or Iraqi involved in any way in 9/11, and in fact the Taliban had even warned US of an attack, that your own book credits your brothers failure to enforce US immigration law as an article posted by Jean here at ALIPAC reveals, your brother did not keep US "safe".

Furthermore and this will come out, your brother was the worst at enforcing US immigration law throughout his two terms, almost as bad as Obama. Your brother let 'em in, but we shut him down from giving them guest worker permits like he wanted to do, so Obama gives the permits to them under an Executive Order, but if they hadn't been here to begin with, then there wouldn't have been any illegal aliens for Obama to give work permits to.

And finally, your brother, MR. FREE TRADE TREASON with Capital T's who signed more Free Trade Treason Pacts than any President in US History including CAFTA. Thanks only to Hugo Chavez are we not under the binds of the Free Trade Agreement of America that would have extended this disaster throughout the entire western hemisphere, which and yes it will come out, you were going to be President of the FTAA "organization" and had already negotiated having it's corporate headquarters in Miami, Florida.

You think we're stupid, Jeb? No, you're stupid.

Which all means, you've got family baggage, immigration shackles and free trade barnacles that the American People, especially Republicans want no more part of. And Trump has your number. It's only going to get worse from here on out for you. You will be humiliated, your entire family disgraced. You should get out now and save your people the scandals that are without a doubt forthcoming, because no matter how much money you think you have or think you can raise, Jeb? It won't matter. You won't get any votes.

    You're done. It's over.

Jeb Bush: You can't trust Donald Trump with our nuclear codes
    Dylan Stableford

    October 18, 2015

Jeb Bush escalated his ongoing war of words against Donald Trump, telling CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that the Republican frontrunner and former “Celebrity Apprentice” star is approaching foreign policy like he’s still on a reality show.

“He’s not taking the responsibility, the possibility of being president of the United States really seriously,” Bush said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. “For him, it looks as though he’s an actor playing a role of the candidate for president. Not boning up on the issues, not having a broad sense of the responsibilities of what it is to be a president.”

The former Florida governor’s comments came just hours after his campaign released an attack ad mocking Trump’s admission that he gets his foreign policy advice from cable news shows and warning voters that the brash-talking real estate mogul would have control of 4,650 nuclear warheads if he became commander in chief.

On CNN, Bush was asked if he has confidence in Trump’s ability to handle that kind of responsibility.

“I have grave doubts, to be honest with you,” Bush said.

He pointed to Trump’s ideas on handling the crisis in Syria by allowing Islamic State militants in the region to remove President Bashar Assad from power and having Russia fight the terror group as proof the leading candidate for the Republican nomination is not ready for prime time.

“Across the spectrum of foreign policy, Mr. Trump talks about things as though he’s still on ‘The Apprentice,’” Bush said. “I mean, literally, talking about Syria, saying ISIS should take out Assad, then Russia should take out ISIS, as though it was some kind of board game, and not a serious approach.”

“This is just another example of the lack of seriousness,” Bush added. “And this is a serious time. We’re under grave threats again, and I think we need a president with a steady hand.”

On Friday, Trump suggested President George W. Bush deserved some of the blame for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks because they happened on his watch.

“When you talk about George Bush — I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time,” Trump told Bloomberg Television. “He was president, OK? Blame him or don’t blame him, but he was president. The World Trade Center came down during his reign.”

“Jeb, why did your brother attack and [destabilize] the Middle East by attacking Iraq when there were no weapons of mass destruction?” Trump tweeted Sunday. “Bad info?”

On “Fox News Sunday,” Trump even suggested 9/11 would not have happened if he had been president.

“I would have been much different, I must tell you. Somebody said, ‘Well, it wouldn’t have been any different.’ Well, it would have been,” Trump said. “I am extremely, extremely tough on illegal immigration. I’m extremely tough on people coming into this country. I believe that if I were running things … I doubt that those [terrorists] would have been in the country. So there’s a good chance that those people would not have been in our country.”

Trump added: “I’m not blaming George Bush. But I don’t want Jeb Bush to say my brother kept us safe because September 11th was one of the worst days in the history of this country.”

"My brother responded to a crisis,” Jeb Bush responded Sunday, “and he did it as you would hope a president would do. He united the country, he organized our country and he kept us safe. And there’s no denying that. The great majority of Americans believe that.”

“Jeb Bush should stop trying to defend his brother and focus on his own shortcomings and how to fix them,” Trump later tweeted.

Jeb, though, said his defense of George W. has nothing to do with their familial ties.

“I mean, so next week, Mr. Trump is probably going to say that FDR was around when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor,” he said. “It’s what you do after that matters. And that’s the sign of leadership. You don’t have to have your last name named Bush to be able to understand that.”

Bush’s willingness to attack Trump, though, may be born out of necessity.

According to a Fox News national poll released last week, Bush (8 percent) ranks fifth in a still-crowded Republican field, trailing Trump (23 percent) by 15 points in the race for the GOP nomination.

Nonetheless, Bush doesn’t believe Trump will make it through the primaries.

“I don’t think Trump is going to win the nomination,” Bush said on CNN. “I think we’re going to have a nominee that will unite the party and win the presidency.”

Your brother gave us the Patriot Act, NSA Spying, Two Wars, Millions of Illegal Aliens, Chaos in the Middle East, thousands of dead soldiers, tens of thousands of seriously injured veterans, and $3 Trillion and climbing in War Debt he couldn't pay for.

Jeb, it's time for you to put your Big Boy Pants On, and face the fact that we do not believe your brother kept US safe. He didn't do his job on immigration that caused 9/11, he failed to secure the borders allowing an invasion of illegal aliens, he failed to use reason, restraint and honesty with regards to Wars, he shipped millions of our good jobs and trillions of dollars of our economy off to foreign shores, he ran up our national debt, and reigned over the worst economic collapse since the Depression.

It's why no American with 2 live brain cells still connected wants another Bush of any type of any sort in the American White House, and that's before we even get to your own free trade mania, "acts of love" on immigration and other issues of total and complete ineptness.

Surprised at CNN for using this headline because it is blatantly false. Trump didn't say that. What he did say was that under his administration it would've been harder to do. Here is Fox's headline from that interview, "Trump suggests he might have prevented 9/11 attacks". A bit different than CNN, eh?

I've noticed that a lot. I'll click on an article when I google because of the headline only to find out, the article doesn't substantiate the headline, and yes, it;s usually "blatantly false".

It's snake-oil sensationalism by the press. Sort of like what we would see at the grocery check out counter with National Inquirer. It's bizarre to see it in mainstream media, a "trick to get the click", I guess for advertisers on their internet sites.

Shameful. There is very little professionalism left in journalism. Nothing like it used to be. I'm even wondering if most of these writers even went to journalism school to begin with.
