DUI suspect sentenced for illegal entry into U.S.

    October 6, 2017
    By Martin L. Cahn

A 34-year-old Honduran man arrested in late February for DUI by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) received a four-month sentence and a special $100 assessment earlier this week for being in the country illegally.

In a press release issued Wednesday afternoon, South Carolina U.S. Attorney Beth Drake said Ramon Orlando Alvarenga-Rodriguez was sen-tenced in federal court in Columbia for illegal re-entry by a previously deported alien. U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs handed down the sentence and special assessment.

In a February press release, Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said Alvarenga-Rodriguez had used eight different aliases and eight different birth dates in an attempt to elude deportation. On Feb. 25, an off-duty Forest Acres Police Department officer traveling into Kershaw County encountered Alvarenga-Rodriguez driving recklessly as he entered Elgin. The officer had Kershaw County dispatchers notify KCSO deputies, advising them Alvarenga-Rodriguez was running vehicles off the road and appeared to be DUI.

Inside the town limits, an Elgin Police Department officer made contact with Alvarenga-Rodriguez, who tried to flee on foot. However, both the Elgin and Forest Acres officers apprehended him. KCSO deputies arrived and charged Alvarenga-Rodriguez with DUI (second offense), driving without a license and open container.

Alvarenga-Rodriguez refused to provide officers with his correct name or birth date, but a Spanish-speaking Camden police officer assisted in properly identifying him. Further investigation showed Alvarenga-Rodriguez had been arrested in 2015 for DUI in Charleston and that he had been deported on three previous occasions.

According to the KCSO, Alvarenga-Rodriguez had previous arrests for felony DUI resulting in death, shoplifting, open container, criminal domestic violence, driving without a license, careless operation of a motor vehicle and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Alvarenga-Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the illegal re-entry charge in mid-June.

In her press release, Drake said the case was investigated by Immigration and Custom Enforcement-Enforcement Removal Operations and the Kershaw County Sherriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Day II of the Columbia office prosecuted the case.

Time to give him "fake" documents and a one-way trip to the Middle East...never to return.

ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL
