By John Stanton
Roll Call Staff
Sept. 14, 2010, 3:20 p.m.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Tuesday that he was adding the Dream Act to the defense authorization measure in the hope of passing some sort of immigration legislation prior to the November elections.
The Dream Act would provide a pathway to citizenship for children in the country illegally who serve in the military or go to college. The Nevada Democrat called the measure “utterly important.â€

More backdoor, piecemeal amnesty. They need people who are not loyal to the United States, who are lawbreakers/criminals, to join their ranks in destroying or transforming America.
Romans 14:11, it is written, "For it is written, As I live, said the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

The increase in Latinos in the military has not quite kept pace with their rise among 18-to-44-year-olds in the civilian labor force. Latinos made up 16 percent of the civilian labor force in 2004, but less than 10 percent of enlisted personnel and 13 percent in September 2006.2 However, the civilian figure includes those who do not meet military requirements for enlistment, including education and immigration status. Until recently, enlistment required a high school degree. Almost all (99 percent) of enlisted personnel in Fiscal Year (FY) 2001 (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30) had either a high school degree or the equivalent, such as a General Education Development (GED) certificate. Also, until recently, immigrants had to be citizens or legal permanent residents to enlist. Under these qualifications, Latinos actually have been overrepresented among enlisted personnel. In FY 2001, Latinos made up 8.2 percent of the qualified civilian work force and 9.5 percent of enlisted service members.3

Reid To Add Dream Act Immigration Provision To Defense Bill
Tue., Sept. 14, 2010 5:10 PM ET
Harry Reid is from Nevada, so he’s familiar with gambling. Still, the Senate majority leader is taking a heck of a risk by asking his fellow Democrats to vote on an immigration bill so close to an election. Specifically, Reid said today he may attach the Dream Act to the defense reauthorization bill.
What’s the Dream Act? It is legislation to offer a citizenship to illegal immigrants who have either graduated from a U.S. high school, gotten a GED or served in the military. Though often described as a bill to benefit immigrant children, its provisions would be available to those up to the age of 35.
First sponsored by Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., in 2007, the Dream Act has garnered some bipartisan support but has stalled in the Senate amid Republican criticisms it is an amnesty bill. In a statement today, Reform Immigration for America, a pro-immigration group, called the Dream Act an “important steppingstone to comprehensive immigration reform.â€RIP Butterbean! I've emailed 15-20 Senators this afternoon. We need to especially concentrate on the Southern and Midwest Democrats and the liberal Republicans in the NE.
