EU to crack down on illegal immigration
HEILIGENDAMM, Germany, March 24 (UPI) -- Six European countries have agreed to launch joint teams designed to crack down on organized crime and human trafficking.

Interior ministers from Britain, France, Italy, Poland, Germany and Spain decided Thursday to pool resources from national agencies and set up units that will work together with the European police agency.

"With the support of EUROPOL, joint investigative teams are to be deployed to combat smuggling and trafficking of human beings or related crimes," a press statement said.

Extraordinary measures are required since human trafficking is increasingly becoming a profitable business for organized criminals, German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble said after the meeting in Heiligendamm, Germany.

The six ministers also announced plans to exchange officials from domestic anti-terror units to facilitate the flow of information between national agencies. This would also lead to a more systematic exchange of information on offenders expelled for preaching religious hatred or other criminal acts related to terrorism.

The groups' proposals will now be presented to all the interior ministers from the European Union for further discussion.
