12:32 PM, Jul. 6, 2012
An illegal immigrant living in Navarre who was accused of illegally selling military items, such as flight helmets, advanced night vision goggles and body armor, to foreign buyers has pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Martyn Caulfield, 55, of the 1900 block of Flamingo Lane is charged with two counts of illegally exporting defense technology or articles without a license, possession of firearms by an illegal alien and two counts of money laundering.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 11. He is being held without bond at the Santa Rosa County Jail.
Caulfield is a citizen of Britain.
Under the business name A.A. Surplus, Caulfield bought new and used military equipment from individuals, secondhand stores, flea markets and web sites such as Craigslist.
The items included equipment that is on the restricted defense articles list. As an illegal immigrant, Caulfield is not eligible to get a license to be able to sell items on the list, according to federal court records.
Caulfield sold the items he bought over Ebay, including to undercover federal agents, the records state.
