Immigration enforcement officials said they took 53 wanted undocumented people into custody last month on the Treasure Coast during a three-week operation.

The operation spanned 30 counties and netted 314 arrests overall, said representatives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Saturday. Officials were targeting individuals who had convictions for serious felonies, such as murder, sex crimes, weapons charges and drug violations.

A spokesman for ICE would not release the names of any of the people arrested or give details about the backgrounds of those taken into custody on the Treasure Coast.

ICE notified local authorities when they were making the arrests. Otherwise, local sheriff’s offices and police departments played no role in the operation, officials said.

Federal authorities nabbed 34 criminal aliens in Martin County, 13 in St. Lucie County and six in Indian River County.

Sixteen of those detained during the operation are individuals who are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for felony re-entry after deportation.

Those arrested represent many countries, including Mexico, Cuba, Canada, the Czech Republic, Romania, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Latvia, Greece, Egypt and more than a dozen South American nations.
