    Fresno Sheriff: Criminal Arrest

I search the internet and made phone calls to get confirmation of immigration status but was unsuccessful.

Not surprising coming from Fresno Sanctuary city.

However, my guess would be they are all in the country illegally.

    Ruben Zapata

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 41 year old Ruben James Zapata of Fresno.

He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail. He is facing felony charges of: Auto theft, evading police, hit and run and possession of methamphetamine. He has an extensive criminal history and was arrested just last month, but was released from jail after bailing out.

Around 12:45 pm on Friday, a resident reported to the Sheriff’s Office that an unknown man had been parked in front of an apartment complex the last two hours, the engine to his car was running and it looked like he may be passed out. Deputies arrived to the area of N. Glenn and E. Gettysburg Avenues and found the reported red Dodge Challenger parked with a man in the driver’s seat.

Deputies approached his window and once he saw them, he shifted the car into drive and sped away. Deputies returned to their patrol cars and began to pursue him. The suspect, later identified as Ruben Zapata, reached speeds up to 80 mph on Fresno city streets and was driving into oncoming traffic at times, with not regard for the safety of others. Deputies canceled their pursuit due to the dangers it posed to the public.

Zapata continued to drive recklessly and while passing through the intersection of Fresno and Dakota, he side swiped a vehicle carrying three people. Zapata never stopped and continued driving to the area of Clinton and Cedar. Zapata parked his car on E. Union Ave., got out and began walking south on Cedar Ave. The two deputies who had first tried contacting him, saw Zapata walking on the sidewalk, stopped him and detained him.

A records check of the Dodge Challenger showed it was reported stolen last week from the Island Waterpark in Fresno. Deputies processed the car for evidence and then returned it to its owner.

One of the occupants of the vehicle Zapata struck at Fresno and Dakota suffered minor / moderate injuries and received medical treatment.

Anyone with additional information about Ruben Zapata is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

    August 18, 2017

    Jennifer Rodriguez

Property detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 38 year old Jennifer Isabel Rodriguez of Fresno.

She has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on a felony charge of embezzlement. Her bail was set at $5,000. She has since posted bond and been released from jail.

During the 2016-17 school year, Jennifer Rodriguez was a temporary employee of the Fresno Unified School District. In one of her roles at Powers-Ginsburg Elementary, she ran a parent foundation which conducted several fundraising events. Money raised from the events was to be used to buy school supplies for students. Information was developed that Rodriguez may have been stealing the money. Fresno Unified attempted to resolve the situation with Rodriguez, but was unable to do so. The district then filed a crime report with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives handling the case interviewed Rodriguez, served a search warrant at her home, and seized financial records that implicated her in the crime of embezzlement. It’s estimated that Rodriguez stole $8,000.

Detectives Searching for Man who Carjacked Uber / Lyft Driver

Detectives Searching for Man who Carjacked Uber / Lyft Driver

    August 2017

Detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help to find 26 year old Samuel Escamilla of Fresno.

He is 5’8”, 160 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair. He is known to have a mustache and goatee. He has a tattoo of the “Air Jordan Jumpman” logo on his inner right forearm. It is possible Escamilla recently cut his hair to a short length. He is a known gang member.

Around 1:00 pm on July 24th, Samuel Escamilla and Elizabeth Sage approached a 76 year old man in the shopping center located at the northeast corner of First and McKinley in Fresno.

The 76 year old man works as a driver for the ridesharing companies, Uber and Lyft. Sage and Escamilla told him they were interested in arranging a ride later in the day, so the driver provided them his contact information.

Later in the afternoon, Sage called the man and arranged for him to pick up Escamilla and her near the intersection of First and Princeton in Fresno. The man arrived around 3:30 pm and they agreed to a flat rate cash payment, rather than use the Uber or Lyft mobile apps to conduct the business transaction. Their agreed destination was the area of Fowler and Dinuba Avenues, just south of the city of Fowler. The man arrived in the rural area and pulled over to a dirt road, figuring they were lost. During this time, Sage and Escamilla told the driver this was a robbery and they demanded his car keys, wallet and phone. The man turned off the car and then threw his key fob out the window and into a vineyard. He quickly got out of the car and tried running away. Escamilla chased the man and tackled him. Escamilla and Sage held a knife to the man and threatened to hurt him unless he did what they told him to do. The two suspects found the key fob in the dirt, got into the victim’s 2016 Jeep Cherokee and drove away. The victim walked to a home in the area and asked the residents for help. They called the Sheriff’s Office and deputies responded to take a report.

On July 26th, deputies located the stolen Jeep Cherokee. It was abandoned in an orchard near Clovis and Huntsman Avenues, a couple miles away from where it was originally taken.
Property crimes detectives handling the investigation development information which identified Elizabeth Sage and Samuel Escamilla as the carjacking suspects.

On July 31st, Elizabeth Sage was located and arrested. The 30 year old Fresno woman is currently in the Fresno County Jail facing several felony charges, including carjacking, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Her bail is $217,500.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Eric Penland at (559) 600-8171 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to encourage both drivers and passengers to be safe when utilizing ridesharing services. It’s best to book rides through the company’s appropriate mobile app. Doing so generates a digital record of the transaction, which allows both the company and law enforcement to track the customer / driver information should they need to access it at a later time.

8/7/17 - On Monday, property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s arrested Crescenciano Moreno and booked him into jail.
Moreno actually turned himself in. After releasing his name and photo to the public last week, he felt pressured so he contacted his attorney and they arranged for him to surrender to us.

7/31/17 - Property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have identified Crescenciano Moreno as a suspect in the June 9th robbery of the “Joyeria Krystal” jewelry store located at 2215 W. Tahoe Ave. in Caruthers. A judge has issued an arrest warrant and it comes with a bail amount of $345,000.

Moreno is 34 years old, 5’9”, 200 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair. He goes by the nickname of “Chris” and is known to hang out in the areas of Fresno and Reedley.

Around 10:20 am on June 9th, two men armed with handguns entered Joyeria Krystal and tied up the woman who was working. One suspect held her at gunpoint while the other took jewelry from display cases and cash from a safe. They fled in a black Mercedes Benz. The total value stolen is estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.

Detectives developed information that identified 35 year old Jorge Albert Aquino as one of the robbery suspects. On July 6th, detectives made a vehicle stop in the area of Herndon and Golden State in Fresno, found Aquino inside the car and arrested him. Detectives also found a loaded handgun inside the car.

Detectives later served a search warrant at Aquino’s home located on the 5400 block of W. Indianapolis Ave. in Fresno. Inside they found an AR-15 style handgun, ammunition, cash and cocaine (46 grams or 1.6 ounces).

Aquino is currently being held in the Fresno County Jail on numerous charges, including robbery, possession of drugs by a felon and possession of guns by a felon. His bail is $628,000.

During the course of this investigation, detectives found the black Mercedes Benz car that was used in the robbery. No one was in the car when it was found. The car has since been returned to car dealer, where it was wanted for the purpose of repossession.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Detectives continue to search for the merchandise stolen from the jewelry store.
