U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Mexican man with a drug smuggling conviction Thursday in Rio Grande City.

The Harlingen Fugitive Operations Unit arrested 41-year-old Rigoberto Olvera-Martinez, according to federal court records.

On June 15, 2006, Olvera was convicted of importing more than 5 kilograms of cocaine and sentenced to 41 months in prison, according to the criminal complaint against him.

The federal government deported Olvera on April 12, 2012, through Del Rio.

"The defendant claims to have illegally re-entered the United States on or about May 5, 2015 by wading the Rio Grande River at or near Roma, Texas," according to the criminal complaint.

Olvera is now charged with illegal re-entry.

Court records don't list an attorney for Olvera, who remains in federal custody and couldn't be reached for comment.

I'm sure Olvera has 're-entered' numerous times in those years - he just wasn't caught.

They just go back and forth with very little done to stop it.

We are supposed to be a very strong country - with the baddest military - capable of defending the entire world and telling them how to live - BUT we can't even keep invaders out of our own country. We can't get them out once they are here - even if they are vicious criminals.

    The world is laughing -
