SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Latinos are coming together on Monday night to discuss the latest proposals on immigration reform.

Latino activist Tony Yapias is the former director of Hispanic affairs for the state of Utah, and he said he wants to make sure Utahns understand that thousands of undocumented workers living in Utah don’t want amnesty.

They would, however, like the opportunity to have a work permit, so they can “come out of the shadows,” according to a press release issued by Yapias.

“We don’t want a free hand-out,” Yapias said. “We are willing to accept conditions.”

The meeting will discuss the impacts recent immigration reform proposals will have on Utah Latinos. The meeting takes place Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Federacion de Clubes Mexicanos de Utah, located at 344 South Goshen Street in Salt Lake City.
