GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) An 11-year-old girl who was hit by a truck Monday morning is now in a coma, according to friends of the victim's family.

The accident happened just before 6:30am near the girl's bus stop on Dedeaux Road. The victim's grandmother told WLOX News that Daneshia Dedeaux was crossing the busy road to return a movie to a Red Box kiosk.

And the driver of the truck that hit the girl may be an illegal alien. That's according to Gulfport Police, who turned him over to Immigration Customs Enforcement shortly after the accident. The driver was issued citations for driving without a license and having no insurance.

At one point, Daneshia was in critical condition, and had to be airlifted to USA Medical Center. Once in Mobile, she was stabilized, but has a broken leg and a broken arm, as well as internal injuries.

Daneshia Dedeaux is a student at Crossroads Elementary School.
