Federal prosecutors say a grand jury has issued indictments for 21 gang members or gang associates accused of a variety of drug and firearm crimes.

U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson announced the indictments Tuesday, culminating a long-term investigation by the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force.

Olson said 13 people face indictments on drug charges, including conspiracy to distribute meth and possession of the drug. Eight people face firearm charges, including illegal possession and transferring a saw-off shotgun.

Authorities say 17 individuals have already been arrested, while warrants have been issued for the other four.

Most of those indicted are from Boise, but two are from Twin Falls and another from Pocatello.
Olson says the investigation began when officials focused on the Aryan Knights gang and its associates.
