    Here Are the Most Common Jobs Held by Immigrants in Each State

    Immigration reform has dominated the Republican primary race since Donald Trump announced his candidacy. In his speech, Trump threatened to boot out the “rapists” and “criminals” coming to the United States from Mexico and promised to build “a great wall” across the border.

    Since then, several of his competitors have outlined what their plans for curbing unauthorized immigration would be if elected as president in 2016. Largely forgotten in the debate, is the tens of millions of legal immigrants in the United States, many of whom have become a vital part of the American economy.

    Business Insider
    recently looked at data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Here are most common jobs held by American residents born outside the U.S.:

    Many of the top jobs in “border states” fall within the service industry, such as:

    • Housekeepers (8);
    • Janitors (7);
    • Agricultural workers (5);
    • Cooks (5); and
    • Construction workers (4).

    However, in Maine, Michigan and Ohio, college teachers make up the top profession, and butcher is the predominant job held by legal immigrants in Iowa and Nebraska.

    Earlier this month, data scientist Giorgio Cavaggion reviewed the most common country of origin for legal permanent immigrants in the U.S., after Mexico., based upon data collected by the Department of Homeland Security.

    The primary native lands for immigrants in states with high populations of foreigners, such as California, New York and Texas, are all in the Far East:

    The top nations for non-Mexican immigrants to the U.S., according to the map, are:

    • India (19);
    • Phillippines (7); and
    • Burma/Myanmar (5).

    Other countries of note include China (3), Somalia (2), and Cuba, which is the predominant nation of origin for Floridians.

    NO AMNESTY

    Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.
