An influx of asylum seekers believed to be part of the highly politicized "migrant caravan" is expected to reach Texas next month and a cohort of Corpus Christi activist groups is collecting supplies for their arrival.

The first group of people from the latest caravan to reach the border have gathered at the Mexican city of Tijuana. They are among several hundred other asylum-seekers heading north in groups.

President Donald Trump has called the caravans an "invasion" and bolstered security along the border as a response.

On Sunday, a protest in Tijuana turned chaotic. In response, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers shut down traffic at the San Ysidro border crossing south of San Diego and fired tear gas after some migrants threw projectiles at them, according to reports.

It is estimated that a large group of asylum seekers from the caravan will arrive at the Texas border by mid-December, so donations are being accepted through Dec.10, according to a Facebook page created for the supply drive.

Three donation stations have been set up:

Unitarian Universalist Church of Corpus Christi
    Address: 6901 Holly Road
    Drop off hours: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Wednesday
    Revelations
    Address: 505 Water St. #537
Drop off hours: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday
    Leach Residence
    Address: 5014 Lethaby Dr.

The following items are being collected:

    • Toiletries (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
    • Granola bars
    • Blankets
    • Rain gear
    • Medical supplies (band-aids, bandages, antibiotic cream, etc.)
    • Baby supplies (diapers, wipes)
    • Socks

The Humanitarian Respite Center, operated by Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, is among several organizations preparing for the influx of asylum seekers, according to a Saturday Facebook post.

The organization is also accepting monetary donations via Facebook.

    Why an influx?

An influx of asylum seekers believed to be part of the highly politicized "migrant caravan" is expected to reach Texas next month and a cohort of Corpus Christi activist groups is collecting supplies for their arrival.

More and more keep coming in, the numbers are ballooning. Small numbers of individuals are going out through deportation. It is apparent that this is a lose, lose for the American people, for our future, for sustaining our identity, culture and sovereignty.

    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
