Holland, Mich.

A 31-year-old Holland Township man was arrested this past weekend and charged with armed robbery after he threatened Meijer staff members with a knife after allegedly attempting to steal alcohol and clothing.

Gustavo Olivares-Sanchez was arraigned over the weekend on an armed robbery charge stemming from an incident at the Holland Township Meijer on Thursday, Dec. 4.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Bennett, Olivares-Sanchez was confronted by a loss prevention officer when he was allegedly caught attempting to walk out of the store with beer and items of clothing at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

“The suspect produced a knife and threatened the loss prevention officer,” Bennett said. Olivares-Sanchez then fled on foot without further incident with the Meijer employee.

Surveillance of the incident led investigators to Olivares-Sanchez, who was arrested without incident Friday evening at his Holland Township home.

Olivares-Sanchez is being held at the Ottawa County Jail on a $20,000 cash surety bond.

Immigration Custom Enforcement officials have also placed a hold on Olivares-Sanchez because of his illegal alien status, Bennett added.
