Tegucigalpa (AFP) - Honduras said Monday it was preparing for the return of thousands of its citizens following reports the US was planning a mass deportation of Central American migrants fleeing violence and poverty.

The foreign ministry said in a statement it respected the immigration policies of other countries, including that of the United States.

But "up to now the only official information received from the US government is that they are going to return to Honduras people who have a final deportation order, after all legal procedures are concluded."

It added that Honduras expected the United States to conform with human rights standards in deportation cases.

The Washington Post and Wall Street Journal reported last week that President Barack Obama's administration was planning a vast operation to round up and expel migrant families.

Those who had failed to win refugee status and had received deportation notices would be sent to their home countries.

The Department of Homeland Security did not dispute the anonymously sourced reports, which also indicated that the crackdown was imminent.

The issue of immigration is extremely sensitive in the United States, even more so as candidates jostle for the 2016 US presidential elections.

Recently, the number of Central American migrants trying to get into the United States has again increased, following a relative lull this year after a 2014 spike in which 60,000 unaccompanied children made it to the border.

The reported move has, however, drawn criticism.

One of El Salvador's top officials for migration issues has called the decision "regrettable."

"We have been informed about the decision of senior US officials to begin deporting family units and non-accompanied minors," said Liduvina Magarin, deputy minister for Salvadorans abroad.

"It is a regrettable decision by the US government (that affects) our Salvadoran families."

Refugee and rights groups argue that Central Americans from the gang-plagued "Northern Triangle" of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras are fleeing violence and corruption.

Aracely Romero, who works for the Center for Returned Migrants that helps Hondurans arriving back home with transport and food, expressed her concern.

"There needs to be a plan to receive them," she told AFP.

She said that this year, around 19,000 Hondurans were sent back, nearly half the 36,461 recorded last year.

More than a million Hondurans live in the United States, sending back $3 billion in remittances that amount to nearly 20 percent of Honduras' gross domestic product.

Following the 2014 "border crisis" of arriving Central Americans, the United States approved a $750-million aid package for the Northern Triangle countries to try to stabilize them and reduce the conditions prompting the migrant exodus.

They do not want them back, they are sending them here for the remittances akin to EU not able to deport africans and other illegals. These countries are using more civilized societies because they as a country/government are ignoramuses but know how to count money and very much aware of where it is coming from.

The problems are we do not know if they are murderers, rapists, child molesters for one and we need our jobs for our citizens. The male will have a job but the "exploding with babies" are ALL ON THE DOLE - free monies, healthcare etc. Oh the budget ...the budget.....

Not only are their youth joining gangs, their working stiffs are being displaced by Chinese imports. But, somehow, that ends up as our problem.

First Hondurans deported from US this year arrive home

Tegucigalpa (AFP) - The first 115 Hondurans to be deported from the United States this year arrived home on Monday, a group that looks after them said.

The expulsion on a flight to the northern city of San Pedro Sula is a relatively common occurrence. In 2014, a total 36,416 Hondurans were deported from America, and last year around 19,000 were sent back.

But the United States is reportedly to step up the deportations of Central Americans starting this month, with planned raids of homes to seize any who have outstanding deportation orders against them.

The US Department of Homeland Security has not disputed anonymously sourced reports to this effect that were published by The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, but no official confirmation has been forthcoming.

The issue of immigration is extremely sensitive in the United States, even more so as candidates jostle for the 2016 US presidential elections.

The Honduran group that looks after deportees, the Center for Returned Migrants, has expressed concern about the US plan.

On Monday, one of its coordinators, Aracely Romero, noted that "the greatest number of deportations has happened during the administration of President (Barack) Obama."

She estimated that one in three of those deported would leave again in search of "the American dream."

These countries have all jeopardized the former goodwill between nations that we have enjoyed in this hemisphere for many years. They have violated our trust and our laws and made themselves out to be repugnant thieves and enemies of the American People. It's a sad tragedy of what could have otherwise been a happy western hemisphere with everyone working together within their own proper countries in a state of affairs that advances all the countries through mutual respect, peace and prosperity.

That is all gone now and they have only themselves to blame.

Honduras should of blocked them from coming to the U.S., not escort them to the border.

I do not recall Honduras concerned about human rights prior to their citizens fleeing to America, nor do
I recall them notifying the U.S. of the mass exodus allowing our border patrol time to prepare for the influx.

Our governments decision to deport is not regrettable but it is certainly regrettable all these refugee and rights groups
do not do anything to help the migrants in there own countries.
