ICE arrests 44 in NJ during 5-day enforcement effort targeting sex offenders

NEWARK, N.J. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark Field Office executed a "Crimes against Children" operation April 4 through 8 as part of the agency's public safety efforts.

All of the targets in this operation met the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) highest immigration enforcement priorities as established in DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson's 2014 memorandum. The operation netted a total of 44 arrests of individuals convicted of crimes against children.

The individuals arrested throughout New Jersey were nationals of Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, England, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

"The results of this targeted enforcement operation underscore ICE's ongoing commitment to public safety," said John Tsoukaris, field office director of ERO Newark. "As part of this operation, we specifically focused on the arrest of individuals who took advantage of children.

Because of the tireless efforts and teamwork of ERO officers and our law enforcement partners, there are 44 fewer criminals in our neighborhoods," he added.

These individuals range from age 19 to 61 years old and all were previously convicted of a variety of offenses. Some of the convictions included sexual abuse of a minor, criminal sexual contact of a child, luring or enticing a child, endangering the welfare of a child, sexual assault of a minor, child abuse, child neglect and indecent exposure.

Among those arrested during this operation include:

    • A Haitian citizen convicted of criminal sexual contact against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
    • An Ecuadorian citizen convicted of luring or enticing a child, attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.
    • A Guatemalan citizen convicted of criminal sexual contact on a child.
    • A Cuban national convicted of three counts of sexual assault of a minor.

In fiscal year 2015, ICE conducted 235,413 removals nationwide. Ninety-one percent of individuals removed from the interior of the United States had previously been convicted of a criminal offense.

ICE is focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement that targets serious criminal aliens who present the greatest risk to the security of our communities, such as those charged with or convicted of homicide, rape, robbery, kidnapping, major drug offenses and threats to national security.

They remove 235,000 and 500,000 pour right back across the border within 6 months. BUILD THE WALL and turn them right back around. Do not detain, no asylum, no refugees, no illegal migrants, no anchor babies. We need to clean this mess up.

25 SA gang members arrested in ICE-led nationwide operation

Project Shadowfire nets 1,133 arrests in US

SAN ANTONIO - A five-week nationwide operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement resulted in the arrests of 25 gang members in San Antonio, authorities said.

According to an ICE news release, Project Shadowfire netted 1,133 arrests, including more than 900 transnational criminal gang members and others accused of being associated with criminal activity, including drug trafficking, human smuggling and sex trafficking, murder and racketeering.

Eleven arrests were made in the Rio Grande Valley.

"This operation is the latest example of ICE's ongoing efforts, begun more than a decade ago under Operation Community Shield, to target violent gang members and their associates, to eradicate the violence they inflict upon our communities and to stop the cash flow to transnational organized crime groups operating overseas," ICE Director Sarah R. Saldana said.

The majority of the suspects arrested were affiliated with MS-13, Surenos, Nortenos, Bloods and several prison-based gangs, Saldana said. She said the 25 people arrested in South Texas are suspected members of Tango Orejon, Sureno 13, Paisa, Barrio La Colonia, Lincoln Court Kings, Rigsby Court Gangsters/Bloods, Denver Heights Bloods, Aryan Brotherhood, Valluco, Mexican Mafia and Gulfo del Cartel.

Most of the individuals arrested during Project Shadowfire were U.S. citizens who had open arrest warrants. Also arrested were 239 foreign nationals from 13 countries in Central America, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.

The arrests were for a variety of offenses from prostitution to burglary and drug dealing according to Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Shane Folden.

Project Shadowfire was a surge operation conducted under Operation Community Shield and led by the Homeland Security Investigations National Gang Unit. Between Feb. 15 and March 21, HSI special agents worked with numerous state, local and federal law enforcement partners, including ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations, to apprehend individuals from various gangs.

“Several individuals arrested were members of the Tango Orejon gang,” Folden said. “There was also one member of the Mexican Mafia.”

He said that teamwork makes a huge difference in the success on projects of this nature.

“We certainly had an impact on the local communities,” he said. “You’re taking about 25 individuals – criminals – who are removed from the community.”
