A bill giving driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants in Illinois is advancing in the State Senate, but a local senator says he is not in favor of the measure. The proposal has so-far seen bipartisan support, passing a senate committee on a 12 to 2 vote. Alton Democrat Bill Haine questions the need and the legality of such a bill

It would create a specially designed driver’s license for illegal immigrants that would be good for three years. Haine says let's not forget these people are here illegally.

The measure is sponsored by Senate President John Cullerton, who says this would affect about 250,000 people in Illinois. The bill now moves to the Senate floor for a vote.
