TAMPA --
A Haitian man arrested at his Tampa home Wednesday was accused by federal investigators of making false statements in his naturalization application.
Georges Jean-Philippe, 48, aka Benedique Jean-Philippe, was ordered detained and held with no bail set, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
During his application for U.S. citizenship in 2008, Jean-Philippe withheld that he had previously been ordered deported under a different name, investigators said.
As a result, he illegally obtained U.S. citizenship in 2008 under a name different from the one he used in his initial dealings with immigration authorities in 2002, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
