WASHINGTON — The man arrested in a 2016 gang-related murder in Gathersburg, Maryland, is the subject of a detainer placed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Josue Moises Coreas-Ventura, 20, was arrested in Bedford County, Virginia, Tuesday. He and four others are charged in the death of Cristian Villagran-Morales, 18, in Malcolm King Park in Gaithersburg in June of last year. Coreas-Ventura is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.

ICE said that Coreas-Ventura is a citizen of El Salvador, and that they placed the detainer on him on Tuesday at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. A detainer allows ICE to take custody of a suspect after they are released from local jurisdictions.

One of the suspects texted Villagran-Morales offering to meet him for sex, prosecutors say; he was stabbed 40 times.

Police say the suspects have ties to the gang MS-13 and that the victim did not.
