April 8, 2015 – ICE arrests 976 gang members and associates during ‘Project Wildfire’ surge

Nearly 1,000 gang members and associates from 239 different gangs were arrested in 282 cities across the U.S. during Project Wildfire, a six-week operation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The operation targeted transnational criminal gangs and others associated with transnational criminal activity. Full Story

April 3, 2015 – New federal child sexual exploitation charges lodged against Bay Area man as authorities seek help identifying hundreds of victims

A grand jury handed down a superseding indictment April 2 containing new child sexual exploitation charges against a Bay Area man whom investigators now suspect obtained sexually explicit images of more than 300 underage victims from across the U.S. and around the world. Full Story

April 8, 2015 – ICE removes former El Salvador defense minister

A former minister of defense of El Salvador was removed from the United States by officers with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Wednesday, after the Board of Immigration Appeals dismissed his appeal and upheld an immigration judge's decision finding him removable for his role in the commission of human rights violations during the Civil War in El Salvador. The 1980-1992 war resulted in the death of more than 70,000 civilians. Full Story

A 38-year-old man wanted in El Salvador on murder and aggravated theft charges was removed April 8 by ERO officers in Baltimore. Full Story

DEA Issues Nationwide Alert on Fentanyl as Threat to Health and Public Safety
MAR 18 (WASHINGTON)

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) today issued a nationwide alert about the dangers of fentanyl and fentanyl analogues/ compounds. Fentanyl is commonly laced in heroin, causing significant problems across the country, particularly as heroin abuse has increased. This alert was issued through the multi-agency El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) to all U.S. law enforcement.

Mexican man sentenced for operating large-scale human smuggling ring
Otoniel Galindo Vasquez-Lopez, 29, of Bossier City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow in Phoenix to more than 14 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release for his role as the leader of an Arizona-based alien smuggling organization that illegally moved hundreds of aliens across the southern border into Arizona and then transferred them throughout the Southeast to multiple cities in Tennessee.
