April 21, 2016 — Florida-based websites seized for selling trademark-infringing auto parts
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit announced April 21 the seizure of two Florida-based websites allegedly selling trademark-infringing automotive parts.
April 21, 2016 — Feds dismantle one of longest underground tunnels ever found along California border
Federal officials April 20 announced the results of an investigation that led to the discovery of what is believed to be one of California’s longest cross-border tunnels and the seizure of a record quantity of cocaine thought to have been smuggled through that underground passage.
April 18, 2016 — ICE Chicago officers deport Guatemalan fugitive sought for murder
A Guatemalan man, who is wanted in his home country on murder charges, was turned over to Guatemalan authorities by officers with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
April 21, 2016 — Ex-ICE attorney sentenced to prison for falsifying document in immigration case
A former attorney for ICE who used a falsified document in an immigration proceeding, was sentenced April 20 in federal court to 30 days in prison, 100 hours of community service, one year of supervised release, and a 10-year ban on practicing law.

Rosa Astrid Umanzor-Lopez, 36, was sentenced April 22 by U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein Jr. to 36 months in prison. She is expected to face deportation proceedings following her release from prison.

José Luis Delacruz, aka Joe Delacruz, 38, of Grand Forks, was sentenced to life in prison for conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine, as well as seven years for brandishing a firearm while drug trafficking. These sentences will be served consecutively.

The seizures follow an investigation and several undercover buys from the websites. Late last year, HSI special agents bought multiple brand-infringing auto parts from the online retailers and subsequently confirmed with trademark holders that the items were fraudulent.

Kash was convicted in November 2015 after a six-day jury trial of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michele Beckwith, Christiaan Highsmith, Kevin Khasigian, and Justin Lee prosecuted the case.

Redding man sentenced to 14 years in prison for receiving child pornography
Nicholas Torrieri, 43, of Redding, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller. Upon his release from prison, Torrieri will be required to register as a sex offender and will be supervised by the court for the rest of his life. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh F. Sigal prosecuted the case.

Former Guatemalan police officer arrested in Albany-area as a suspect in a deadly robbery in his home country
Kenedy Agileo Pineda-Morales, 41, was arrested by authorities without incident April 13, in Saratoga Springs, New York. A preliminary investigation determined that Pineda-Morales was living under an assumed name in the area. Authorities confirmed his true identity using biometric information and photos.

Tijuana man charged with importing counterfeit pain pills containing potentially deadly chemical
Sergio Linyuntang Mendoza Bohon, 19, was arrested in February after he attempted to smuggle nearly 1,200 counterfeit oxycodone pills into the U.S. through the pedestrian lane at the Otay Mesa port of entry. During a secondary inspection and pat down, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found the tablets along with a package containing several grams of white powder in Mendoza’s underwear.

Last month, Rivera’s co-defendant, Brady Rodriguez-Cruz, aka Marcos Antonio Rodriguez-Mejia, 33, also of Irving, was sentenced by Judge Boyle to 293 months in federal prison.

APR 25 (WASHINGTON)
After collecting and destroying 5.5 million pounds—2,762 tons—of unused prescription drugs in the past five years, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is continuing its efforts to take back unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications. The DEA invites the public to bring their potentially dangerous, unwanted medicines to one of over 5,000 collection sites around the country that are manned by more than 3,800 of DEA’s tribal and local law enforcement partners.
This service is free of charge, with no questions asked.
