May 16, 2016 — ICE arrests 87 in Nevada enforcement operation targeting convicted criminals

Convicted drug traffickers and known street gang members are among the 87 foreign nationals arrested in the Reno and Las Vegas areas last week during an operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers focused on targeting at-large criminal aliens who pose a public safety threat.

May 18, 2016 — ICE returns 1493 Columbus letter to Italy

A 1493 copy of Christopher Columbus' letter describing his discoveries in the Americas was returned Wednesday to the government of Italy by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). An investigation conducted by HSI revealed that the letter, bound in a volume, was stolen from the Riccardiana Library in Florence, Italy, at an unknown time and later donated to the U.S. Library of Congress in 2004.

May 20, 2016 — Fiji man indicted for conspiring to export sensitive technology to China

A Fijian national who traveled from New Zealand to Seattle to allegedly procure export-restricted technology to sell to customers in China was arraigned Thursday on federal charges of conspiring to violate the Arms Export Control Act, following an undercover probe by ICE's HSI special agents

Fiji man indicted for conspiring to export sensitive technology to China
William Ali, 37, who resides in New Zealand, is accused of conspiring with an individual in China to obtain specialized accelerometers, which are used in missile and spacecraft navigation systems, along with other sensitive defense parts. Yue Wu, 42, was repatriated May 4 on board commercial aircraft escorted by Seattle-based ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations deportation officers.

Southern Arizona man sentenced for operating human smuggling drop house
Henry Joe Kane, 52, of Tumacacori, was sentenced Tuesday and will be subject to three years of supervised release following the completion of his prison term. Kane pleaded guilty March 8 to conspiring to harbor unauthorized individuals for profit, a felony.

Washington state man arrested for attempted enticement of a minor
Christopher David Johnston, 39, was arrested by HSI special agents as he attempted to illegally enter Canada. Johnston made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Seattle Friday where he is charged by complaint with attempted enticement of a minor.

MS-13 members convicted of racketeering, murder charges
A federal jury today convicted three members of La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, on racketeering and murder changes. Jorge Enrique Moreno-Aguilar, Juan Alberto Ortiz-Orellana, and Minor Perez-Chach face a maximum sentence of life in prison for conspiring to participate in a racketeering enterprise and a mandatory sentence of life in prison for murder in aid of racketeering.

ICE, Spanish Civil Guard sign memorandum of cooperation
ICE Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale and Lieutenant General Pablo Martin Alonso of the Spanish Civil Guard signed the memorandum in Washington, D.C. The signing marks the first International Taskforce established by ICE in Europe, and outlines standards for the selection, training, and retention of personnel; guidelines for the treatment of shared information; and expectations regarding funding and equipment. ICE intends to establish separate MOCs with Spanish Customs and the Spanish National Police.

Charlottesville fortune teller pleads guilty to mail fraud, money laundering
Sandra Stevenson Marks, a.k.a. Catherine Marks, 42, of Charlottesville, laundered more than $1 million in stolen funds from her victims. The plea agreement she signed Tuesday requires her to repay at least $1.2 million in restitution to the victims of her scheme.
