    A federal jury convicted three members of La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, on racketeering and murder charges.

    May 23, 2016 – ICE removes MS-13 gang member to El Salvador


    A Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member wanted by El Salvadoran law enforcement authorities was removed from the United States by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

    May 25, 2016 – Former NBA player indicted in Missouri for charity fraud scheme


    A former professional basketball player, and representative for the National Basketball Players Association, was indicted in federal court for his role in a conspiracy to defraud charitable donors and interfere with revenue laws.

    May 25, 2016 – 5 arrested in phony perfume ring following ICE HSI probe


    Five men from Queens, New York, were arrested Wednesday for allegedly participating in a scheme to distribute counterfeit name brand perfumes in New York and around the United States.

    May 24, 2016 – Former Port St. Lucie police officer sentenced for production, distribution, possession of child pornography


    A former Port St. Lucie police officer was sentenced to life in prison for production, possession and distribution of child pornography and coercion and enticement of a minor. The charges resulted from an investigation conducted by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) offices in Miami and Delaware and the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

    Florida man sentenced to more than 11 years for child pornography
    According to court documents, agents from HSI determined that Alan Kenneth Thompson, Jr., 33, of Crystal River, had been using a mobile app to post and receive images depicting child pornography online. The agents tracked the activity to Thompson’s residence.

    Norma Patricia Rivera, 40, from Deming, was arrested in May 2015 on a criminal complaint charging her with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The complaint alleged that Rivera committed the crime in Luna County, New Mexico, on May 20, 2015.

    4 individuals sentenced for international fraud, money laundering scheme involving sale of gold
    Michael Skillern, 49, of Houston, Texas, received 10 years imprisonment, Jon Craig Nelson, 69, Houston, Texas, received eight years imprisonment, Naadir Cassim, 40, of Barcelona, Spain, and Orlando received five years imprisonment, and Adriana Maria Camargo, a/k/a Adriana Palomino, 37, of Barcelona, Spain, received two years imprisonment.

    Actor Mark Wayne Salling, best known for his role as Noah Puckerman on the television show “Glee,” was charged Friday in a federal indictment with receiving and possessing child pornography on his laptop computer and a flash memory drive.

    FINANCIAL CRIMES


    Southern Illinois woman sentenced to 6 months' home confinement and 5 years' probation for structuring currency transactions
    Son Chong Fulton, 57, of Edwardsville, Illinois, received the sentence for structuring currency deposits to avoid IRS reporting requirements. The judge also ordered Fulton to forfeit $191,800, and ordered her to pay a fine of $34,185 and a special assessment of $100.

    ICE arrests 73 in 2-state enforcement operation targeting convicted criminals
    Those arrested had criminal histories with past convictions for drug trafficking, DUI, weapons violations, child sex offenses, identity theft, child abuse and other serious criminal offenses. Fifteen of those taken into custody were criminal aliens who now face federal prosecution for re-entry after deportation, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

    Patrick Badal, Kaium Shah, Kenny Ni, Abul Kashem, and Parvez Shazzed face charges of conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods, trafficking in counterfeit packaging and smuggling goods into the United States.

    Former NBA player indicted in Missouri for charity fraud scheme
    This indictment alleges that Kermit Alan Washington, 64, used a charity he founded and operated, called Project Contact Africa (PCA), to defraud donors, eBay and PayPal, and the IRS. In order to induce individuals, including former professional athletes, to make donations to PCA, Washington falsely represented that 100 percent of the donations would go to Africa. However, Washington diverted charitable donations from PCA to buy gifts and pay personal expenses, including rent, vacations, jewelry and entertainment.

    Juan Diego Lozano-Salgado, 24, was sentenced by Judge Hayden Head sentenced to 60 months in federal prison. As an illegal alien, he is also expected to face deportation proceedings following his release from prison.

    North Texas methamphetamine trafficker sentenced to 20 years in federal prison
    U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor sentenced Octavio Colin, 34, of Cleburne, Texas, to 240 months in federal prison following his guilty plea earlier this year to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

    Southeast Texas man sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography
    Jorge Betancourt, 37, of Robstown, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Hayden Head to 180 months in prison. In addition, Betancourt must register as a sex offender, and serve 15 years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.

    Former North Texas special needs instructor sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for producing child pornography
    Kelly Dan Williams Jr., 62, has been in custody since his arrest in June 2015 on a related federal criminal complaint. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Fort Worth in July 2015 on two counts of sexual exploiting children; he pleaded guilty to that indictment in January 2016.

    Retired police officer arrested for conspiring to launder multi-million dollar prostitution ring proceeds
    Between June 2012 and May 2016, Michael Rizzi, 44, of Brooklyn, New York allegedly owned and operated a BJM/Manhattan Stakes and Entertainment (BJM), a company that provided high end prostitution services to customers in the New York metropolitan area.

    Michael Quinn, 33, of Melbourne, was charged in a criminal complaint filed Monday in federal court with traveling to the U.S. for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

    Former Port St. Lucie police officer sentenced for production, distribution, possession of child pornography
    Michael Edwin Harding, 28, of Port St. Lucie, was charged with receiving and distributing material involving sexual exploitation of minors and possession of child pornography. According to court documents, on July 23, an individual posted images of child pornography to an instant message account for mobile devices.

    Oklahoma City man sentenced to a year in federal prison for possessing child pornography of a child under 12
    On Nov. 20, 2015, a one-count information was filed charging Cody Mcguire, 23, with possessing child pornography of a prepubescent minor under the age of 12.

    5 New Mexico residents charged with methamphetamine trafficking, money laundering as result of an ICE-led multi-agency investigation
    The following five defendants are charged in a nine-count indictment alleging methamphetamine trafficking and money laundering offenses: Rodriguez, 45, Leslie Frank Williams, 51, Oscar Garcia, 45, and Andy Garcia, 43, all residents of Deming; and Estella Aguilar, 44, of Tucson, Arizona.

    San Jose man convicted of sex tourism and obstruction charges
    Michael Lindsay, 56, of San Jose, was convicted of traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct; engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places; attempted witness tampering; and obstruction of justice. Following a four-day trial, the jury found that Lindsay traveled from San Francisco to Manila intending to have sex with a minor and had sex with a minor while there.

    Fiji man indicted for conspiring to export sensitive technology to China
    William Ali, 37, who resides in New Zealand, is accused of conspiring with an individual in China to obtain specialized accelerometers, which are used in missile and spacecraft navigation systems, along with other sensitive defense parts. Yue Wu, 42, was repatriated May 4 on board commercial aircraft escorted by Seattle-based ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations deportation officers.

    Medical Doctor Arrested on Federal Structuring Charges


    MAY 26 (LOS ANGELES)


    A Los Angeles-area doctor was arrested this morning after being indicted on federal "structuring" charges that allege he made hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash deposits designed to circumvent federal reporting requirements. Dr. Washington Bryan II, 47, was arrested this morning at his residence in Westwood. Bryan is expected to be arraigned this afternoon at the United States Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
