    October 14, 2015 – Colorado dinosaur fossil smuggler sentenced in Wyoming

    A Colorado man was sentenced in Wyoming last week for his role in a multi-person conspiracy to smuggle dinosaur fossils from China to the United States after hundreds of thousands of dollars in fossils were imported by mislabeling and concealing them within legitimate cargo. Full Story

    October 16, 2015 – DHS proposes changes related to on-the-job training program for STEM students


    The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today proposed changes to its regulations that would strengthen and enhance the process for foreign students with science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degrees from a U.S. college or university to get practical training experience in the United States.     October 13, 2015 – Colorado man sentenced to life for kidnapping and producing child pornography


    A Colorado man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for four counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of kidnapping, following an extensive ongoing probe led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in collaboration with the Bakersfield and Colorado Springs police departments.     October 9, 2015 – Phoenix sisters sentenced for property rental scheme catering to human smugglers and other criminals


    A Phoenix-area property manager who previously pleaded guilty to harboring illegal aliens has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for her role in a far-reaching scheme to rent out residences to human smugglers, drug traffickers and others involved in criminal activity. Full Story

    October 15, 2015 – Anti-Defamation League honors ICE for bringing Bosnian war criminal to justice


    The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) honored ICE personnel as law enforcement heroes Oct. 13 for their success in fighting against war criminals. The ADL SHIELD award specifically recognized the work of personnel from the ICE’s Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center (HRVWCC), ICE’s HSI Washington, D.C., field office, and the Department of Justice in the case of Almaz Nezirovic, 56, a former guard at the Rabic Prison Camp in the Derventa Municipality of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War.     Husband, wife arrested for conspiring to traffic millions of dollars' worth of counterfeit goods
    Le Fu Chen, aka Tom Chen, aka Danny Chen, 40 and Hai Fan Huang, aka Cindy Haung, 36, of Roslyn Heights, New York are each charged with one count of conspiring to traffic counterfeit goods, and one count of trafficking in counterfeit goods. The married couple allegedly intended to distribute and sell the counterfeit products to retailers in Manhattan and elsewhere.

    Jerry Curry, 47, of Haltom City, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor to 300 months in federal prison. Curry pleaded guilty in July to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

    According to court documents, the defendants operated a criminal enterprise in Central Texas since 2005. Under the leadership of Texas-Central Region “Inca” Pete Perez in Austin, San Antonio Chapter “Inca” Joe Pierce and Uvalde Chapter “Incas” James Long and Jacob Mariscal, they conspired to carry out unlawful acts including attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, extortion, robbery, various firearms offenses and drug distribution involving marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.

    Former Washington state woman admits defrauding immigrants with promises of legal status
    Dalia Ivette Singh, aka Dalia Pena, 61, who most recently resided in Clearwater, Florida, defrauded more than 40 immigrants from the Caribbean and Latin America. Singh charged some families as much as $36,000, claiming she had a contact with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) who could provide the immigrants with legal status in the United States.

Since identity theft sentences must be served consecutively to sentences on other convictions, Pyle’s total sentence is 54 months in federal prison.

    151 Arrested in DEA-Led Investigation of Synthetic Drug Rings

    OCT 15 (WASHINGTON)

    The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along with other federal, state, and local law enforcement today concluded a 15-month, nationwide drug interdiction effort that resulted in 151 arrests in 16 states. The enforcement action, known as Project Synergy III, targeted the synthetic designer drug industry, including wholesalers, money launderers and other criminal facilitators. In addition to curbing the flow of synthetic drugs into the country, Project Synergy III continues to reveal the flow of millions of dollars in U.S. synthetic drug proceeds to countries of concern in the Middle East.
