Philadelphia County Sheriff's Office

On Friday, Abraham Cordova, 27, admitted in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court to viciously assaulting a 63-year-old woman last year. The attack took place on April 11, 2013, inside the woman's home.

Cordova followed the victim home from a Chinese takeout, and when she rebuffed his advances by slamming her apartment door in his face, he went around back and climbed through the woman's window, according to prosecutors.

Cordova sexually assaulted the woman and brutally beat her with a set of brass knuckles. The victim suffered severe wounds during the assault, and spent several months recovering in the hospital.

Due to her injuries, she underwent emergency surgery at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia. However, the woman has permanently lost vision in her left eye, and the vision in her right eye has become impaired.

Cordova, was arrested a few days after the attack and charged with attempted murder, attempted rape, aggravated assault, burglary, and possession of an instrument of crime. Surveillance video at the takeout restaurant played a key role in identifying the Guatemalan national.

At Friday's court proceeding, Cordova, who speaks on Spanish, addressed the court, saying: "I ask for pardon for what happened. I feel bad for that."

Unmoved by the illegal alien's rather hollow apology, as well as by Cordova's attorney, Conor Wilson's argument that the near-fatal assault was nothing more than the result of a night filled with 'excessive drinking,' Judge Ann Butchart sentenced Cordova to 25 to 50 years in state prison. Wilson had asked for a much lighter sentence of 3 1/2 to 15 years.

Sadly, the woman was so traumatized by the horrific experience that she could not attend Cordova's sentencing. In her absence, Assistant District Attorney Kristen Kemp read a victim-impact statement in which she told the court that the assault "totally ruined and destroyed my life." She said, life for her, now is "deplorable and an abomination to me."

Unfortunately, we are becoming somewhat used to daily reports of monstrous sexual assaults by illegal aliens. And, not unlike many of the others, this is one that could have easily been prevented...

Cordova was charged with a DUI in 2008, and despite his illegal status in this country, he was never deported. It is unclear at this time whether he was reported to federal immigration authorities who simply refused to act, or if local law enforcement failed to report Cordova for possible deportation. Of course, in light of the fact that Philadelphia is a so-called 'sanctuary city,' it is very likely that he was never reported to the feds.

Cordova is currently being held at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, while awaiting transfer to a state prison.

While this case serves as yet another disgusting example of the lack of regard our elected officials at all levels of government, have for we, the citizens, equally disgusting is the sympathetic media coverage given to this brutal sexual predator...

On Saturday, Mensah M. Dean, a reporter for the Philadelphia Daily News, described Cordova, as a young man "who left his home country to escape a life of chopping sugar cane."

Really?

How often do you hear a rapist who has maimed a senior citizen described in such terms? It is now more clear than ever before that those who not only seek to enter this country illegally, but to also do physical harm to U.S. citizens, not only have an ally in our feckless politicians, but one as well in this country's mainstream press.
