Those who have lost loved one to crimes committed by illegal aliens say the mainstream media downplays those crimes while mythologizing illegal "dreamers."

WASHINGTON, August 26, 2016 — Those who have lost loved one to crimes perpetrated by illegal aliens say the mainstream media downplays those crimes while playing up the plight of those here illegally.

“Our situation is grossly under reported,” said Brian McCann. “Some would say undermined by the Democrats.” McCann recently documented his brother’s death and the sanctuary policies which led to it in the book “Death in Chicago.”

McCann’s brother, Denny, was killed by Saul Chavez in 2011. In the country illegally, Chavez was driving with a blood alcohol level about three times the legal limit when he dragged Denny McCann about two hundred feet with his car.

Worse yet, Chavez was stopped in 2008 for another drunk driving offense, at which time he admitted to being in the country illegally. Even so, the local Chicago police did not inform immigration authorities due to their jurisdiction’s longstanding sanctuary city policies against doing so.

Chavez is now a fugitive from justice after another sanctuary policy in Cook County allowed his release from prison, because once again, Cook County Sheriff’s Officers were forbidden from cooperating with Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel.

Don Rosenberg’s son was also killed by an illegal alien. He, too, says stories like his are rarely covered. With regard to the mainstream media, he notes “They rarely report on illegal alien crime.”

Instead, citing his local newspaper, the Los Angeles Times as an example, he counted over one hundred of what he referred to as “crime me a river” stories, stories concerning the plight of illegal aliens trying to make it in America.

McCann noted that the families of victims of numerous crimes committed by illegal aliens spoke out at the Republican Convention, but their speeches were all but ignored in nationwide major media coverage.

Jamiel Shaw Sr. was one such speaker at the Republican Convention in Cleveland. His son, a star high school football player, was gunned down by an illegal alien gang member recently released from prison rather than being turned over to ICE because of local sanctuary policies.

While ignoring Shaw’s emotional speech, McCann noted, the media spent days breathlessly promoting the DNC speech of Khazir Khan, whose son died in Iraq and who also spoke at the Democratic Convention in favor of open border policies. It later turned out that Khan was a long-time supporter of Hillary Clinton.

McCann and Rosenberg also said the media routinely cites false and misleading statistics to downplay the effect of illegal alien crime by citing carefully massaged and misleading statistics such as the oft cited study which found that immigrants commit crimes at lower levels than citizens.

“I hope they would,” Rosenberg said, pointing out that legal immigrants are screened before they are allowed entry for among other things criminal background.

Rosenberg noted, however, that those purportedly exculpatory statistics include both legal and illegal aliens, while he is specifically concerned about crimes committed by illegal aliens.

Another dubious statistic claims that only 126 murders were committed by illegal aliens released from custody between 2010-2014. While technically accurate, that statistic is typically misleading. Neither Rosenberg’s nor McCann’s brother would be included in that number since they weren’t actually “murdered.”

Furthermore, the reported number only includes illegal aliens who, like the killer of Kate Steinle, were previously in custody but released.

“Illegal aliens kill over 5,000 people per year,” said Rosenberg.
