DOUGLAS — Authorities say nobody was wounded when a man assaulted a Forest Service law enforcement officer, grabbing the officer's handgun and firing it several times before being taken into custody.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says the incident occurred Saturday in a rural area northeast of Douglas when the officer encountered two men who appeared to have entered the country illegally.

The Sheriff's Office says one of the two men ran away but the second began struggling with the officer. That man was taken in custody when he got into the officer's vehicle but couldn't start it because of security features.

The man was held for federal authorities. A search later resulted in the apprehension of the man who had fled. He was released to the Border Patrol for processing.

The suspect, 30-year-old Jesus Eder Juanni-Moreno of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, is being held in the Cochise County jail. The FBI is expected to take custody of Juanni-Moreno for federal prosecution.
