EDINBURG - Border Patrol agents and Edinburg police on Monday raided three motel rooms and arrested 21 alleged illegal immigrants.

An anonymous tip led officials to the Rex Motel, a few blocks away from the Edinburg Police Department. Officials said the motel has been used in the past to hide illegal immigrants.

"We're ... less than two blocks from the (police) department," Edinburg Police Lt. Oscar Trevino said. "That just goes to show how brazen ... how the immigrants are treated as a commodity."

The immigrants are from Mexico or Honduras, police said. Border Patrol took custody of the group.
