Illegal aliens flown back to Guatemala

    Immigrants flown back to Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - A group of 13 children and their mothers deported for entering the U.S. illegally were flown back to Guatemala on Tuesday, another marker of the Obama administration's effort to speed up removal of Central American immigrants and send a discouraging signal to others who may attempt the journey.

Six girls and seven boys, ranging in age from a few months to 12 years, disembarked the plane and were rushed off the tarmack at La Aurora International Airport, shielded by bleary-eyed mothers, who covered their heads with jackets to avoid a swarm of media.

A spokesman with the Guatemalan foreign affairs ministry said two additional children and their parents were supposed to arrive on the same flight from Phoenix, Ariz., but were allowed to remain in the U.S., pending last-minute appeals about their immigration status.

    Patriotic banner

Scores of government officials greeted the families under a patriotic banner with the words, "Now you are in your country, and with your people," written in Spanish and a Mayan dialect. Plastered against the opposite wall in odd juxtaposition were posters warning against the perils of migration, human trafficking and one seeking information about the disappearance of a young man.

"The (Guatemalan) government can say many things, but the reality is very different," Leonel Dubón, executive director of the Childhood Refuge Association, said in Spanish as he observed the families' arrival at the airport. "There still aren't resources for people returning with their children. There isn't organization or coordination whatsoever, it's a disaster."

In tearful interviews after arriving, mothers told Dubon they had fled extreme poverty and violence in Guatemala. One mother easily crossed into the Rio Grande Valley with her three children, ages 11, 9 and 4, a week ago, Dubón said.

The first round of flights carrying families from the U.S. back to the crime-riddled nations of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador began last week, returning dozens of children, including seven on Friday to Guatemala. Another flight is scheduled to arrive in Guatemala City on Thursday.

Between October and June 30, more than 57,000 minors were apprehended by Border Patrol agents, most of them from Central America traveling without a parent or guardian and crossing into the Rio Grande Valley. Tens of thousands more have been caught with a parent.

    Fewer apprehensions

During its peak, daily apprehensions of children soared past 300 in the Rio Grande Valley, but in the first two weeks of July apprehensions have dropped by more than half.

Still, the surge of minors crossing the U.S. border in recent months has overwhelmed federal processing facilities, fanning a political firestorm, and given the Obama administration fits as it grapples with caring for thousands of children already in the country, while warning others to forgo the trip.

President Barack Obama has asked for $3.7 billion in emergency spending to deal with the crisis and will meet with Central American leaders Friday to discuss further steps those countries can take to stem the exodus of unaccompanied minors streaming across the border into Texas.

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

Is anyone else impressed with dozens returned out of 57.000. That does not represent but the children, that number would be plus , and that number would only represent those caught!

HSI, absolutely I am not impressed by these deportation numbers!! I would ask why not hold them until you have a plane full to contain the individual costs of returning them America's government is very, very inefficient. Taxpayers, here is a news flash, inefficiency in government will NOT be corrected while we continue to return Democrats AND Republicans to do the governing!

If we do not rebel at the polls, America will have to experience another rebellion sooner rather than later. It is just the way politics works.

Far too many are being transported into the hinterlands to start their life at taxpayer expense.
