Illegal Immigrant Teen Arrested for Allegedly Beheading His Mother

An illegal immigrant has been charged with first degree murder after allegedly beheading his mother with a butcher knife.

Oliver Mauricio Funes-Machada, 18, has been confirmed to Breitbart Texas by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency as an illegal immigrant living in North Carolina from Honduras.

“ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) has issued a detainer for Oliver Funes-Machado, an unlawfully present Honduran national, following his arrest March 6 on local charges in Franklin County, North Carolina,” ICE Communications Director Bryan Cox told Breitbart Texas.

Funes-Machada allegedly killed 35-year-old Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machada by severing her head, and then allegedly carrying her head in his hands, along with a butcher knife, down the street, according to the Charlotte Observer.

“When they arrived, he was with the decapitation in his hand and it was a gruesome scene,” Sheriff Kent Winstead told the media at the time.

“It was a gruesome scene… I can’t tell you how many wounds,” Winstead said.

Funes-Machada is allegedly the oldest sibling of his family, with two minor children at the home at the time of the alleged beheading, though authorities said they were unharmed. Another sibling was at school at the time of the alleged attack.

Funes-Machada is currently being held at the Franklin County Detention Center without bond, and ICE’s Bryan Cox said the agency has requested that the illegal immigrant be turned over to federal authorities, should he be released for any reason.

Deputies report ‘gruesome’ scene of NC teen standing with butcher knife, severed head

In a scene one law enforcement officer referred to as “gruesome,” an eastern North Carolina teenager was found Monday holding his mother’s severed head in one hand and a large butcher knife in the other.

It happened 190 miles east of Charlotte in the small Pilot community of Franklin County. The closest town is Zebulon, an eastern Wake County town of 4,400 people.

The suspected killer, 18-year-old Oliver Mauricio Funes Machada, is now in jail, charged with first-degree murder in the killing of his 35-year-old mother, Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machada. The suspect was originally identified with his last name spelled Funez.

"When they arrived, he was with the decapitation in his hand and it was a gruesome scene," said Sheriff Kent Winstead told TV station WRAL.

Coverage of the story has gone international, with such spectacular headlines as “Teen arrested after greeting police with butcher's knife and mother's severed head.” The Sun in the United Kingdom referred to the event as a “Beheading Horror” and claimed Machada “decapitated his own mum in front of her kids then confronted cops carrying her head.”

Deputies say they came to the home after receiving a 911 made by Oliver Machada on Monday. “He stayed on 911 until the deputy arrived, talking the whole time,” Winstead told the Raleigh News & Observer.

Media reports say the first deputy on the scene saw the teen walking out of the house, holding the head in one hand and what appeared to be a butcher knife in the other. When Machada saw officers, he reportedly placed the head on the ground and was arrested.

"It was a gruesome scene...I can't tell you how many wounds,” Winstead told WRAL.

Law enforcement officials have said the incident took place around 12:47 p.m. at a home on Morgan Drive.

Media reports say two young girls, about ages 2 or 3, were at home when the attack happened but were unharmed. Another sibling was at school at the time, officials have said. Oliver Machada is reportedly the oldest child in the family, and had finished the 10th grade at Rolesville High School.

One neighbor, Randy Mullins, told WRAL he drove by the scene and saw a look of “terror” on the face of one of the deputies at the scene.

Neighbor Eddie Garner, who lives a few doors down, told TV station WTVD that neighbors could hear Machada’s husband reacting to the scene when he came home just before 5 p.m.

"I don't know what they (deputies) told him," Garner told WTVD said. "I mean, we just heard him crying and you could hear him all over the place."

Oliver Machada is in the Franklin County Detention Center with no bond, according to the department’s Facebook page.

Authorities say all three remaining children are with their father.

Officials say a motive remains unclear.

Absolutely frightening! Satanic! This is how they live in their countries - just because they are here in a civilized county and are somehow getting social services as an illegal (not an anchor baby) does not correct their damaged brains. Being removed from their chaotic countries DOES NOT REMOVE THE DANGERS THAT THEY ARE - IT GOES WITH THEM. This is why one cannot travel to central america or mexico and leave resort areas. And now they are in our country by the millions continuing to breed their mental illnesses. Never would have believed this would be allowed to happen to American citizens. Forced to live and pay for damaged brain inbreeders to breed more! We might fare better to release wild animals amongst the public, at least some of them can be tamed.

A teen accused of beheading his mother in Franklin County was in the country illegally, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which has moved to deport him if he is ever released from jail.

Oliver Funes-Machado, 18, was arrested at the family home on Morgan Drive, off Carlyle Road northeast of Zebulon, on Monday and charged with first-degree murder.

Franklin County Sheriff Kent Winstead told reporters that Funes-Machado called 911 to report the killing and stayed on the phone until deputies arrived. When a deputy got to the home, Winstead said, Funes-Machado walked out of the house holding the head of his mother, Yesenia Funes Beatriz Machado, 35, in one hand and what appeared to be a large butcher knife in the other.

In an application for a warrant to search the house, Detective A.R. Roberts of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wrote that Funes-Machado told dispatchers that “he stabbed her ‘like 8 times’ and left the knife in her mouth.” Roberts wrote that Funes-Machado told dispatchers that he had killed his mother “because I felt like it,” and told dispatchers that his 4-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother were in the home at the time.

After Funes-Machado was arrested without incident, deputies secured the home and waited for the search warrant to further investigate. The search yielded bloody clothing and shoe prints; a large, blood-covered kitchen knife; and medication used to treat psychosis and schizophrenia that investigators say they think belonged to Funes-Machado, according to the warrant.

Funes-Machado’s public defender, Louisburg attorney C. Boyd Sturges III, said in a phone interview with the Associated Press that he spoke with the teen for an hour in the Franklin County jail.

“It does appear there’s some substantial mental health issues involved in this case,” Sturges said. “I’m not a doctor, so I can’t really elaborate. He’s a pretty profoundly disturbed young man in a mental health kind of way.”

No motive for the killing has been determined, and deputies will continue investigating and conducting interviews, said Ninth District Attorney Michael Waters. Funes-Machado is being held at Central Prison in Raleigh and is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing March 14, Waters said

The teen’s name, originally reported as Funez, appears as Funes-Machado on federal documents. He is from Honduras and was living in the United States illegally, ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said Wednesday.

The federal agency filed what’s called a detainer for Funes-Machado. A detainer does not infringe on criminal charges or proceedings against Funes-Machado, but requires law enforcement to notify ICE if he is being released, so he can be put in the agency’s custody, Cox said.

Cox said he did not know the immigration status of the other members of Funes-Machado’s family but said they are not in ICE custody.

I heard today he was being medicated for Schizophrenia. I bet the parents are illegal too. Even though they are illegal, this is a sad situation. I bet this kid spends the rest of his life in a mental hospital here in the US.
