Raleigh, July 19 – Over 50 protesters against illegal immigration stood outside the Mexican Consulate on Six Forks Road on Saturday, waving flags and holding signs.
The grass roots effort, named the National Day of Protesting Against Immigration Reform, Amnesty & Border Surge, was primarily coordinated by ALIPAC, Overpasses for America and Make Them Listen.
These and other groups “planned the historic wave of protests occurring in more than 300 locations nationwide this past Friday and Saturday,” said William Gheen, Director of the Raleigh-based Americans for Legal Immigration PAC.
Gheen was present at the Raleigh location for much of the day helping coordinate protesters.
In an email exchange, Watchdog Wire asked Gheen why he thought news reports of a slowing of people crossing the border was happening now. He had this to say:
[T]the crossing may slow down as audiences in Central and South America hear news of Americans fighting back against the Obama inspired illegal alien invasion of America and while the promises that Obama will not enforce our laws against them will still prove attractive, the fact there is growing open resistance to the planned invasion nationwide may deter potential illegals. Of course, Obama could stop the illegal crossings with a few words at a press conference announcing he would start doing his job and actually enforcing our existing border and immigration laws as the US Constitution requires.
People in the crowd represented many facets of the cause. Signs were printed with “Close the Borders”, “Defund Mexico” and “Bring Back Andrew Tahmooreesi”, the American soldier being held in a Mexican jail.
Steve, one of the protesters, wrote Watchdog Wire in an email that he was there for three main reasons:

    • to demand our government do their job and secure our border against the surge of thousands illegal aliens invading our country,
    • to protest amnesty for these law breakers,
    • and to demand the return of our Marine Andrew Tahmooressi who is being held in a Mexican jail on a ridiculous weapons charge.
