Man jailed for Medford rape (1 p.m.)
A Central Point man is in Jackson County Jail on a first-degree rape charge after he reportedly raped a woman he knew at her Medford apartment.

Medford police got a report of a rape at an apartment in the 600 block of Northwood Avenue just after midnight Tuesday.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, told police that she knew the man. After he sexually assaulted her in her home, she chased him from her apartment with a baseball bat and a pellet pistol, police said in a news release. He had left just before police arrived.

Central Point police found the suspect, Jose Manuel Flores-Cornejo, 19, of the 2100 block of Taylor Road, Central Point, at his home. He was arrested and lodged in jail on charges of rape and being in the country illegally.The woman was taken to Providence Medford Medical Center for examination and evaluation. The case remains under investigation, Lt. Tim George said.
