One of the nation's top experts on illegal immigration believes the Obama administration is aiding and abetting smugglers and gangsters by declaring its intention to grant more executive amnesty and work permits to up to eight million illegal immigrants.

Rosemary Jenks, the director of government relations for NumbersUSA, said on Breitbart News Sunday that President Barack Obama does not even have the "constitutional authority" to enact more grants of executive amnesty that would "worsen" the border crisis. She declared that "Americans don't want it." If they did, Congress, according to Jenks, would have already passed comprehensive amnesty legislation.

"The outrage by Americans is the reason why it isn't passed," she said. "Americans do not want to reward illegality." She said that after Obama allowed nearly 800,000 illegal immigrants in the country to "have legal status and work permits so they can compete with Americans for any jobs in the country" by unilaterally enacting his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012, it allowed gangs and cartels to recruit more people they could smuggle.

"Every day he allows this to continue he enriches the cartels. He enriches the gangs. He is actively aiding and abetting the cartels and the gangs who are smuggling these people into the country," Jenks said of Obama. "This is what is so truly criminal about this. He is engaging with them in this smuggling conspiracy."

Cartels and gangs reportedly advertise in Central American newspapers, convincing people that amnesty awaits them across the U.S.-Mexico border. Many migrants, who have paid smugglers thousands of dollars, are surrendering to Border Patrol agents hoping they will receive "permisos" that they falsely believe will allow them to remain indefinitely in the United States.

Since a 2008 law prevents federal officials from immediately deporting illegal immigrant juveniles who are from countries other than Mexico or Canada, illegal immigrants often stay in the United States for years after they are first apprehended while their cases are processed in courts that are overwhelmed. They then tell friends and family in their home countries that they are living in America essentially free of consequences, enticing even more to pay thousands to smugglers to take them on harrowing journeys to America.

Jenks said Republicans are complicit as well and blasted GOP lawmakers in the House and Senate who "have been getting bad advice" from "pro-amnesty" consultants like Karl Rove and Grover Norquist. Jenks said these consultants do not understand the politics of the immigration issue in wanting to pander to the Hispanic vote by pushing amnesty, even though there is no evidence that passing amnesty legislation will convince more Hispanics to vote Republican.

Jenks said that Obama and lawmakers ultimately have to think about what's in the "national interest" on immigration, especially the interest of American workers who pay the price for unchecked open borders and illegal immigration.
