MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Demonstrators marching from Selma to Montgomery in protest of Alabama's voter ID and immigration laws plan on making the state's toughest-in-the-nation crackdown on illegal immigrants the focus of their march on Thursday.

Demonstrators have been marching since the ceremonial crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma on March 4 to commemorate "Bloody Sunday," where hundreds of marchers protesting the shooting death of Jimmie Lee Jackson were brutalized by Alabama State Troopers.

The goal of the modern march is to call attention to laws organizers say are suppressing the right to vote. Alabama's voter ID law will go into effect in 2014 and require citizens to show photo ID at the polls.

The immigration law requires Alabamians prove their citizenship during police stops, licensing and other official transactions.

Illegal aliens do not have the right to vote, period. This is not impressive when Amreican citizens are so desparate for attention and filled unresolved resentment that they join with foreign nationals for political gain.

The only little glitch is that Hispanic is not a race or a color. Illegals are citizens of another country that have come here in violation of our immigration laws and are parked at the public trough for a living regardless of where they came from. So what do these groups have in common and who and what are they really protesting?

I suppose many of these old civil rights creakys are seeing a chance to bring themselves into the limelight and relive the exciting times of their lives.

I am amazed at how many people managed to get off of work to do a 4 day "march" during the week. They either have very understanding employers or they don't have to punch a time clock for their income.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Hundreds of people from across the country have converged on the Alabama state Capitol for a re-enactment of the Selma-to-Montgomery march.

The group has been marching from Selma since Sunday night, growing along the way.

The unusual recreation of the march is in protest of Alabama's new immigration law and what opponents see as threats to voting rights in the form of voter identification requirements.

A rally is beginning at the Capitol that is expected to last much of the afternoon. Another rally is planned for 6-8 p.m. at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, just down the street from the Capitol.

The Rev. Al Sharpton is expected to speak at about 1 p.m., followed by Martin Luther King III and actor Tyrese Gibson.
