Immigration Solution: Allow Free Movement of NAFTA Workers

Paul Cellucci, ambassador to Canada under President George W. Bush, has a novel solution to much of the immigration problem — allow citizens of the United States, Canada, and Mexico to work freely in any of the three countries.

That would be the final logical step of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the three countries, he says.

“In one market-based move, which President Obama could negotiate with America's NAFTA partners and submit to the Senate for ratification, the U.S. could solve a huge part of its immigration problem while breathing new life into North American trade,” Cellucci wrote Monday in an op-ed piece for The Wall Street Journal with Stephen Kelly, associate director of Canadian studies at Duke University.

Of the 11 million illegal immigrants now living here, about 58 percent are Mexican, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

“With permission to work here legally, they could have their status regularized overnight,” wrote Kelly and Cellucci, who also served as governor of Massachusetts. “They would become legal not because the U.S. grants them citizenship but because they are citizens of Mexico, a NAFTA member.”

If the workers wanted to become citizens, they would have to wait in line just like anyone else, the two men said.

“But with this group of more than six million undocumented immigrants taken care of, finding solutions for the remaining illegal population would be far less daunting,” they added.

I get so weary of one scheme after another to dissolve our national borders, annul citizehshiip, encourage more foreign squatters and destroy our national sovereignty.

It is obvious that there are people in high government positions that do not believe the United States should exist as an independent nation -- and it sickens me. I am not and do not want to be a "citizen of the World" nor a citizen of a NAFTA continental union.

I believe in free enterprise capitalism but not at the expense of destyroying our existence as an independent nation. We do not need NAFTA or other grandious one world, Rub Goldberg contraptions to have a thriving free enterprise economy. In fact without the drag on our economy by the dysfunctional societies in Latin America, we probably would do better. Just look at the European Union (another grandious "we are one world, kumbayah" scheme) and how socialist/Marxist Greece is sucking the blood out of the economies of other European nations like Germany.

Is there anyone who seriousely believes that foreigners allow to stay here legally will not soon have full citizenship handed to them on a silver platter? And what about the the automatic citizenship given to their children who are born here? And then the chain migration and all of that baloney will be activated.

For the one thousandth and one time: ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY -- PERIOD. Turn off the magnet and they will leave humanely, voluntarily. Unless that is done everything else is meaningless and ineffectual.

Call Rand Paul, Marko Rubio, e-mail Sean Hannity and call every state Republican organization and tell them, no way any legal status. This is a non-negotiable demand. And tell naive conservatives that Mr. Paul and Mr.Rubio do not deserve to be honored as leaders or statesmen.

I have to wonder ifthat hasn't been the plan from the beginning and the American people have been the last to know. Failure to secure the Southern border has been rampant since Clinton signed NAFTA
