Jeb pushes back on Trump comments: Mexican immigration rate ‘basically flat’
August 30, 2015
By Mark Hensch
Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) said on Sunday that GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is mistaken for blaming the immigration crisis on Mexico.
Bush added that most of the nation’s influx of illegal immigrants is actually coming from Central America instead.
“Right now the number of Mexicans crossing the border is basically flat,” he told host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York.
“The immigrants that are crossing legally or illegally in both cases are from Central America now,” he said. “It changes.”
“What shouldn’t change is our commitment to respecting the rule of law and our commitment to support the security of our borders,” added Bush, another Republican White House hopeful in 2016.
Bush argued on Sunday that Trump’s immigration platform would be too costly and impractical.
“What Donald Trump is proposing is a wall that can’t be built, and if it was, it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars,” he said, citing Trump’s call for a wall on America’s border with Mexico.
“He wants everyone deported, which would tear family lives asunder,” Bush said. “It would probably be unconstitutional.”
“It’s not conservative and it’s not realistic and it does not embrace American values,” he added of Trump’s immigration policies.
Bush admitted on Sunday that Trump is resonating with voters because he feeds off of their collective frustration.
“The Trump phenomenon is real,” he said. “He has captured a sizable amount of support based on connecting with people’s anxiety about what the future looks like. He is not offering any compelling proposals, though.”

Oh my God, we don't even have to buy him a shovel. He's already buried himself.
“He (Trump) wants everyone deported, which would tear family lives asunder,” Bush said. “It would probably be unconstitutional.”
Hey "Jeb!", you "joyful tortoise", enforcing US immigration law is not "unconstitutional". You know what's "unconstitutional"? Having a bunch of Presidents who swear to faithfully execute the Office and then fail to do so.

Jeb: 'Virtual Fence' Can Be 'Quite Effective'
Sunday, August 30, 2015 01:30 PM
By: Greg Richter
Jeb Bush says Donald Trump's plan for a border wall isn't as feasible as a "virtual fence" that includes technology in areas where the terrain make a wall impossible.
"A wall doesn't work," Bush said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York. What border states need, Bush said, "is more support for local law enforcement. They need the border patrol to be unleashed."
He told host John Catsimatidis he recently met with local officials along the Mexican border and was told by a former head of border patrol in the region that a "virtual fence" can be "quite effective."
Bush said Trump's popularity is based on his connection to voters' anxiety about the future.
"He's not offering any compelling proposals though," Bush said. "When people get the full record — he was for taxing assets not that long ago, he was for a single-payer system not that long ago, he was for partial-birth abortion. He doesn't have specific plans as it relates to border enforcement. ... When people get a deeper look, he's not a conservative."
Bush said his first act as president would be to withdraw the Iranian nuclear deal because it will create massive instability in the region.
"It's a direct threat to Israel," he said. "It's going to create chaos."
Bush said the United States also should be standing up for Christians persecuted in the Middle East and North Africa.
"For the first time in 1,400 years mass is not being said in Mosul [Iraq]," he said. "If you're in the caliphate of ISIS, and you're Christian, you'll be dead."
The United States, he said, has an obligation to stand up for those "who are being wiped off the map."
Also on the show, Bush's son, Jeb Bush Jr. was interviewed by the host's son, John Catsimatidis Jr.
Bush Jr. is focusing on younger voters in his father's presidential campaign. Younger voters care most about pocketbook issues such as being able to afford health insurance and paying of student loans.
President Barack Obama inspired young people eight years ago, but now "a lot of young folks feel turned off and let down by this political process," Bush said.

Jeb Bush admits that Donald Trump is a real candidate
August 30, 2015
By Michael Blaustein
WASHINGTON – Donald Trump’s top political rival and his family’s longtime adviser agreed that the billionaire businessman is the real deal.
“The Trump phenomenon is real,” Jeb Bush told John Catsimatidis on AM 970’s The Cats Roundtable. “(But) he’s not offering any compelling proposals though … He’s not a conservative.”
Bush has taken a drubbing in a recent Iowa poll that puts him at a distant 6 percent compared to Trump’s 23 percent.
Bush family adviser Mary Matalin conceded Sunday Trump could win the White House.
“He has more substance than we’ve seen displayed. He certainly has the moxie,” Matalin told Catsimatidis. “…If he teams up with the right kind of people and has the right kind of substance, yes, his message is electable.”
Trump continues to surge in the polls and leaves Bush in his dust. The latest Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll puts Trump at 23 percent in Iowa, followed by Ben Carson at 18 percent. Trailing in single digits are Ted Cruz (8 percent); Scott Walker (8 percent); Marco Rubio (6 percent) and Bush (6 percent).
Bush, who once distinguished himself as a compassionate advocate for immigration reforms, drew criticism last week for using the same controversial term as Trump to describe children of illegal immigrants – “anchor babies.” Bush, who is married to a Mexican immigrant, sought to downplay Trump’s controversial border plan as costly and unrealistic. Trump wants to triple the number of federal immigration agents, have Mexico pay for a wall, deport 11 million immigrants and end birthright citizenship.
“A wall doesn’t work … What they need is more support for local enforcement. They need the border patrol to be unleashed,” Bush said.
Bush has been under constant assault by The Donald in recent weeks, branded as “low-energy,” having “no-clue” and “weak.”
But Matalin, adviser to both Bush presidents, came to the former Florida governor’s defense. “Saying that he’s low energy is wrong because the guy is an Energizer Bunny,” she said.

Honestly, anyone who believes the Mexican migration rate into the US is "basically flat" is unfit to serve the people of the United States. Really, Jeb? You think denial or lies is going to turn this thing around for you? It isn't.
