JONES VOTES TO STRENGTHEN BORDER SECURITY
JONES VOTES TO STRENGTHEN BORDER SECURITY
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today in the U. S. House of Representatives, Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) voted in support of H.R. 6061 - the Secure Fence Act - legislation that will harden our nation's borders to guard against the threat of terrorism and stem the flow of illegal immigration. The Secure Fence Act would mandate operational control of all borders and ports through enhanced Border Patrol operations, physical barriers and state-of-the-art technology along the southwest border, including 700 miles of reinforced fencing. The House passed the bill by a vote of 283 to 138.
"This legislation is an important step toward regaining control of our nation's borders, and it's a step that is long overdue," Congressman Jones said today. "There are over 11 million illegal aliens currently living in this country and over 325,000 in North Carolina. An estimated 5,000 more sneak into our country every day. That is inexcusable. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to act quickly in passing this critical legislation."
"The illegal immigration crisis is causing higher taxes for social services, higher costs for health insurance, and it costs our public schools millions every year. It also threatens our national security, as our open borders provide an easy entry point for terrorists who wish to do us harm," Jones said. "It is absolutely critical that we secure our borders and strengthen immigration enforcement."
Provisions of the Secure Fence Act of 2006 will:
· Provide for over 700 miles of two-layered reinforced fencing along the southwest border with prioritized placement at critical, highly populated areas;
· Mandate that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) achieve and maintain operational control over the entire border through a "virtual fence" that deploys cameras, ground sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles, and integrated surveillance technology; and
· Require that DHS provide all necessary authority to border personnel to disable fleeing vehicles similar to the authority held by the United States Coast Guard for maritime vessels.
H.R. 6061 is an emergency measure to enact vital provisions included in H.R. 4437 - the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005 - which passed the House last December but has been stalled by resistance in the Senate.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

That's great and thank you so much.
But how are you going to build a fence without an APPROPRIATION for it?
Little detail that got lost in the mill... that fell through the cracks?

Hey, there's still time to add the APPROPRIATION to the Bill...just amend it to include funding. The House knows the cost from HB 4437.

Jones is 110% against illegal immigrations. If you saw Lou Dobbs the other night he was one of the three Representative's busting our great Attorney General's chops about the two BP officers and demanding a re-investigation.
If North Carolina is luck Jones will run for Governor.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Here is my response to his email bragging about the fence.
Congressman Jones,
With all due respect, there is no mention of funding for the bill and I don’t see a time frame for when this fence is supposed to be enacted. Why vote for a bill when it only give the appearance of doing something good for our nation when in reality it only makes the members of Congress look good in the eyes of the public?
I anxiously await your response.

I saw the interview and was SO PROUD OF HIM.
There is still the issue of an appropriation for the fence bill.
This needs to be added to the legislation so that it is a valid piece of legislation and it needs to be added now.
Perhaps there is some explanation for it that we don't know yet?
If anyone knows or can find out, lets get to the bottom of it ASAP.
Monday, I'll call and see what I can find out in DC.
Jones is a great Congressman, Charles...and it would be wonderful if he would consider running for Governor.

might find part of the answer here:
Funding for Secure Border Initiative
Homeland Security Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007:
Provides $3.98 billion for the Secure Border Initiative,
the president's plan to gain operational control of our
borders over the next 5 years. Provides $161 million for
border security technology, including aerial surveillance
and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Funding for More Border Patrol Agents
Homeland Security Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007:
Provides $2.33 billion in funding for the United States
Border Patrol, including funds for 1,200 new border patrol
agents, to support a workforce of 13,580 agents. Also
provides $2.65 billion for Immigrations and Customs
Enforcement (ICE), including funding for an additional
1,212 ICE agents and officers, for a total of 11,500.
Catch & Return," not "Catch & Release"
Fairness in Immigration Litigation Act: Ends outdated
injunctions that prevent the effective enforcement of
immigration laws and has led to "catch and release"
policies. Gangs, such as MS-13, have exploited these
loopholes, and many criminal aliens have been released
onto our streets.
Detention and Deportation of Alien Gang Members
Alien Gang Removal Act: Prohibits alien gang members from
entering the U.S. and allows for detention and deportation
of alien gang members already within the country.
Expedited Removal of Alien Criminals
Criminal Alien Removal Act: Allows for expedited removal of
alien criminals who are not permanent residents. Currently,
these aliens are placed in lengthy removal proceedings
despite the fact that they are ineligible for relief.
Increase in Prosecution of Alien Smugglers
Alien Smuggler Prosecution Act: Authorizes an increase in the
number of federal prosecutors for alien smuggling cases and
encourages the attorney general to establish uniform
guidelines for prosecution of smuggling offenses.
Criminalization of Construction and Financing
of Border Tunnels
Border Tunnel Prevention Act: Creates criminal penalties of
up to 20 years' imprisonment for knowingly constructing or
financing the construction of unauthorized tunnels at the
border to stop the possible smuggling of aliens, contraband,
drugs, weapons, or terrorists.
Detention of Dangerous Aliens Unable to be Deported
Dangerous Alien Detention Act: Allows for the continued
detention of dangerous aliens under orders of removal for
more than six months if they cannot be removed within the
six month timeframe. Currently the Department of Homeland
Security has no choice but to release many criminal aliens
back into our country when they cannot be removed in six months.
Reaffirm Authority of State and Local law Enforcement to
Enforce Immigration Laws
State and Local Law Enforcement Cooperation in the Enforcement
of Immigration Law Act: Reaffirms the authority of state and
local law enforcement to voluntarily investigate, identify,
detain, and transfer to federal custody aliens in the United
States in order to assist in the enforcement of immigration laws.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

It has to specifically say fence and otherwise it isn’t even worth having. This just reads too much like a political maneuver for elections. I know I sound rather cynical these days.
