Judge sets bail for mom of alleged teen assassin

Judge sets bail for mom of alleged teen assassin

    Associated Press
    December 10, 2010 1:37 pm

A federal judge in San Diego has set bail at $20,000 for the mother of an alleged child assassin accused of working for drug cartels in Mexico.

Yolanda Lugo Jimenez did not enter a plea Friday to a charge of illegally re-entering the U.S. after being deported.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested her Monday at her apartment in San Diego's Logan Heights neighborhood.

A public defender says Lugo is self-employed and earns about $300 a month.

The 43-year-old Mexican citizen was deported from San Diego in 1997 after pleading guilty to possessing rock cocaine.

Her 14-year-old son was arrested last week as he tried to board a plane to Tijuana in an airport near Cuernavaca, south of Mexico City. Authorities say he planned to meet his mother in San Diego.

    Family values.

I think there needs to be a family reunification in Mexico.

SAN DIEGO — The mother of a teenager who has admitted working as a hitman for a Mexican drug cartel appeared in federal court in San Diego Friday to face a charge she has been living illegally in the United States.

Yolanda Jimenez Lugo, 43, stood quietly in a white jail jumpsuit during the brief hearing in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruben Brooks. He set bond for her at $20,000, appointed a lawyer for her and set the next court appearance for Dec. 23.

Jimenez showed little reaction, other than sighing heavily when the bond amount was announced. A federal defender said she makes about $300 a month but did not say what kind of work she did. Friends and family have said she sold Avon for a living.

She has two children, both U.S. citizens, ages 9 and 10 in addition to six children from a previous marriage, including the 14-year-old alleged cartel hitman.

She was arrested Monday night by U.S. Border Patrol agents outside the Logan Heights apartment where she and her family have lived for about eight years. She and her husband, Gabriel Aguirre Manuel, 46, are each charged with illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported.

Jimenez was deported on Sept. 10, 1997, after pleading guilty to drug charges in San Diego Superior Court. Aguirre was deported in May 2002.

The arrests came four days after Jimenez’s 14-year-old son, Edgar Jimenez Lugo, was arrested near Cuernavaca, Mexico, and jailed on allegations of being a hitman for a drug cartel. The teen has admitted to participating in four beheadings on behalf of a gang that is part of the splintered Beltran Leyva cartel.

The boy was born in San Diego, according to a birth registration record on file with the county.

Also arrested were his two older sisters — Elizabeth Jimenez Lugo, 19, and Lina-Ericka Jimenez Lugo, 23. Edgar and Elizabeth were planning to fly to Tijuana and then cross into the United States to be with their mother. Lina-Ericka had driven the pair to the airport.

The sisters are being held in Mexico City for 30 days while their alleged ties to organized crime are investigated. Mexican authorities said Elizabeth is reportedly the girlfriend of Julio “El Negroâ€

    That's not proof of citizenship.

So the kid is a decapitation murderer and a US Citizen (anchor baby)

The mother is a repeat offender for illegal re entry (felony)

This is huge ammo for our guys when they go to straighten out the 14th

Lets see , life for the kid
20 years for the mother (repeat illegal entry is punishable by 20 years)

I can't wait to hear the dems argue this on the floor of the senate
how we need these people to be "new" Americans, the best and brightest
and the reason we need the dream act

Unfortunately Mexico doesn't have a law that allows minors to be tried as adults.
If he is found guilty the most Mexico can give him is 3 years, under their current laws.
He faces no charges in the U.S. because his crimes were not committed here.

Unfortunately under current U.S. laws being born in San Diego makes him a U.S. citizen. (Anchor baby law.)

In Arizona, she wouldn't be eligable for any bond. She would have to remain in custody even if she had the money.
Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...
