Korean man deported for human smuggling

SEATTLE (AP) — Immigration authorities have deported a Tacoma man who facilitated the smuggling of South Korean nationals into the United States.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says that 30-year-old Sung Hoon Ha wad deported Monday after he pleaded guilty in December 2013 to "inducing an alien to unlawfully enter" the U.S. Ha had been under investigation for a couple years before agents arrested him.

Court documents say that Ha first began by advertising in a Korean newspaper his services to obtain driver licenses for his clients.

Washington state does not require a proof of U.S. citizenship. Ha was using his address to apply for other people. He then became a middleman for another Korean man who organized smuggling of people in to the U.S.

Some of the people Han smuggled were women coming to the U.S. to work in the sex industry.
