Lawmakers question Syrian refugee program in U.S.

WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- It was reported that one of the Paris terrorists Friday embedded himself with Syrian immigrants.

The news has left many to question what should happen with the Syrian refugee program in the U.S.

The White House insists Syrian refugees will still arrive despite the Paris attacks.

President Barack Obama reaffirmed his plan to take at least ten thousand Syrian refugees by 2016.

"Even as we accept refugees, we do with rigorous checks, slamming the door in their faces will be a betrayal of our values," he said.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wrote to the President "Texas will not accept any refugees from Syria

I implore you to halt your plans to accept more Syrian refugees in the United States."

Those sentiments are also shared by a growing number of governors all citing security concerns.

But counter-terrorism expert Dr. Matthew Levitt said there's only about two thousand Syrian refugees currently in the U.S. and the vetting process is thorough; it can take anywhre between 12 to 18 months.

"We do have good vetting practices and that's why the numbers are so small, because we're being very careful about this," said Dr. Levitt.

The head of the Council on American Islamic Relations said Syrian refugees have been through enough already.

"Let's remember these refugees have been running away and fleeing the attacks of ISIS and the killing machine of Bashar al Assad.

They're looking for freedom and let's not punish them twice," said Nihad Awad, Executive Director of CAIR.

Some terror experts also believe ISIS doesn't benefit greatly from this refugee crisis.

"The fact is the Islamic state hates this migrant crisis," says Levitt. "If they're such an idyllic caliphate, why are people leaving in droves?"

But Representative Michael McCaul has several concerns about Homeland Security's ability to properly vet these refugees.

"You can't stop it all. We've arrested over 70 ISIS followers in the United States over the last year."

Terrorist experts make it clear that the great majority of Syrian refugees are clearly peaceful, seeking a better life.

Other states wishing to ban Syrian refugees: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas.

Oh puleeze. If terrorist experts were actually experts, terrorists wouldn't have bombed the WTC, twice. If terrorist experts were experts, there wouldn't have been a Boston Marathon Bombing. And there is no peaceful seeking of a better life in the United States, because the only better lives that exist in the US already belong to Americans, and taking those away is theft, robbery and treason .... none of which are peaceful, because they all have violent and harmful consequences.
