Mexico to use international law against migrant hunters
By Natalia Gómez, El Universal
The Mexican government will go to international tribunals if its legal strategies fail against “illegal immigrant hunters in the U.S.A., warned Luis Ernesto Derbez, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Relations. Derbez said that all available legal recourses and diplomatic actions will be taken in order to counteract this phenomenon, especially the anti-immigrant organization MinuteMan Project that now has more than 900 volunteers to protect the borders from “intruders.
The MinuteMan Project volunteers are now prepared to detain immigrants, including Mexicans, who try to cross the border from April 1 to 30.
Might there be an international challenge, Derbez was asked?
In case all national means fail, that is going to local courts in the U.S. with complaints against the illegal activities, of course we would file an international lawsuit, like when we went to the International Court of Justice at The Hague (regarding Mexican nationals sentenced to death in the U.S. who had been denied consular rights). The U.S. government has finally accepted (the judgment in favor of Mexico) and acknowledged its responsibility, and it is carrying out the corresponding actions in order to comply with that ruling, he said.
With respect to the illegal activities of these “migrant hunters, Derbez said that the Mexican government has already expressed its concern and opposition to the U.S. government through a diplomatic note sent last February 10.
On March 7 the U.S. government responded to Mexico’s diplomatic note, expressing its concern about the MinuteMan Project’s activities and its recruitment of volunteers “to hunt illegals. The State Department made it clear in the response that the U.S. government is committed to assurances that laws are followed and consular rights are protected.

Rice displayed little patience with American citizens in Texas, Arizona and other border states who have organized themselves into patrols to prevent illegal border crossings.
"From our point of view, the U.S. government is not supporting these activities," Rice said. "You can be certain if there are any laws broken, that people are going to be held accountable."
