A Newark area man was arrested on charges he lured a University of Delaware coed to his car Friday morning and sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

Candido Tepoz, 28, of Mexico but lives in the Newark area, was charged with one count of second-degree rape, two counts each of third-degree unlawful sexual contact and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, one count of criminal impersonation and two traffic offenses, said UD spokeswoman Donna O'Brien.

The 19-year-old victim filed a report with campus police Friday saying that she had been sexually assaulted earlier that morning by a unidentified man who lured her to his car by offering her a ride home.

The man then dropped the victim off near a residence hall.

UD detectives were able to identify the man's vehicle and obtain the Delaware registration number from surveillance video recorded by Newark police.

Campus police then found the owner and learned the car was regularly driven by another person.

Detectives identified the suspect's address, found him and stopped the vehicle on Kirkwood Highway.

During the traffic stop, Tepoz provided police with a fake name but he was later positively identified and arrested, O'Brien said.

Tepoz is being held in the Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $65,000 secured bail.
