MORRISTOWN - An undocumented immigrant is being held in the Morris County jail on $150,000 bail on charges he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl.

Morristown Police Department Detective Brian LaBarre on Monday charged Jose Bueso, 20, of Morristown with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a minor, sexual assault and criminal sexual contact on a girl on June 3.

During a bail review Tuesday before Superior Court Judge Paul Armstrong, Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Meg Rodriguez asked that the original bail of $150,000 be maintained. She said that Bueso made some admissions about contact with the girl and that he is a flight risk because he is in the United States illegally. She said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified. Bueso's birth country was not stated in court.

Through a Spanish-to-English interpreter, Bueso told the judge he has lived in Morristown about five years and just started a job on Monday working for his uncle.

Public Defender Joseph Scura asked that bail be lowered, telling the judge that Bueso doesn't have any money and has lived in town for a significant period of time. The judge maintained the bail, however, and ordered Bueso to not have any contact with children under the age of 18 if released.
