Orem Man Pleads Guilty To Possession Of Child Porn

PROVO, Utah An Orem man facing state charges of sexual abuse of children has pleaded guilty to two federal counts of possession of child pornography, the U.S. attorney's office said Thursday.

Jacobo Javier Rivera, 32, entered the plea Wednesday as part of a plea agreement that reduced the charges. Originally, he was charged with manufacturing child pornography by photographing the alleged attacks on his mobile phone, the U.S. attorney's office said in a news release.

Federal prosecutors say they will recommend that Rivera get two consecutive sentences of 10 years in prison, according to the release. Rivera is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 29.

Rivera still faces seven first-degree state felony counts of child rape and sodomy in 4th District Court.

Donna Kelly, Deputy Utah County Attorney, said she and Rivera's attorney are working on a plea agreement in that case.

``He will do some time on our charges,'' she said Thursday.

Rivera is accused of sexually abusing several young children since September 2004. He allegedly took digital photos of the attacks with his camera cell phone.

When his then-girlfriend tried to use the phone, she saw the pictures and called police.

Rivera is an illegal immigrant and will be turned over to the U.S. immigration officials for deportation when he has completed his sentence, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Man Gets 20 Years In Prison For Child Porn
An Orem man who pleaded guilty to two federal counts of possession of child pornography has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, the U.S. attorney's office said Friday.

Jacobo Javier Rivera, 33, is also charged in state court with seven felony counts of child rape, sodomy and child sexual abuse and originally faced federal charges of manufacturing child pornography by photographing the alleged attacks on his mobile phone.

In April, Rivera pleaded guilty to reduced charges of possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart sentenced Rivera on Thursday to the maximum of 10 years in prison for each of the two counts and ordered them to be served consecutively. Rivera will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Rivera is an illegal immigrant who would be turned over to the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation after serving any sentences imposed in federal or state court, said Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office.

Rivera is scheduled for a plea and sentencing hearing in Provo's 4th District Court on Wednesday.

(KSL News) -- Already sentenced to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography, Jacobo Rivera now has a plea and sentencing hearing this morning for seven felony counts of child rape, sodomy and child sex abuse.

He is accused of sexually abusing several children as young as five-years old, and taking pictures of the attacks.

His then-girlfriend discovered the photos and turned them into police. Some of the photos included her daughter and niece.

Rivera is an illegal immigrant who will be deported after serving his sentences

I grew up in Provo. Provo, and many other towns in UT are suffering the same fate as Maywood, and many other towns across the nation.
Both of my daughters live in Provo, and I have taught them self defense, and they both carry pepper spray on their key chains. There are many hispanics around their area and its scary as hell.

When I was growing up in this town, if there were 3 murders a year it made national headlines, (well sort of national) but it was a big deal. Now Provo has joined all major cities in daily reports of multiple gang murders, gang rapes, robberies, etc.
Sad..

I still find it an irony that someone gets a longer sentence for child porn than they do for killing someone while driving drunk or human smuggling though.
