President Barack Obama's possible move to allow millions of illegal immigrants to apply for work in the United States would act only as a "lure" to encourage more illegal immigration, says Sen. Marco Rubio.

CNN reports that multiple sources have said Obama intends to do just that through executive action. Such an action would violate U.S. law, Rubio, a Florida Republican, said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

The United States is a deeply compassionate country, as shown by the 1 million immigrants entering legally every year, Rubio told host Sean Hannity. "But that's being abused."

If Obama gives work permits to 5 million or 6 million people, Rubio said, there will be an additional surge of people coming because smugglers and family members will tout the action as a welcoming of immigrants.

"It's just a lure to bring more people over illegally," he said.

Turning to the crisis in Israel, Rubio called on the United States to stop giving aid to the Palestinian Authority. Now that the Palestinian Authority has entered into a unity government with Hamas, the United States is essentially funding Hamas, which the United States calls a terrorist organization.

"We should treat our friends as friends, and we have no stronger ally, probably anywhere in the world, but certainly in the Middle East, than Israel," Rubio said.

Hamas has rejected multiple ceasefire deals, including one from the Palestinian Authority.

Rubio said there won't be a ceasefire until "Hamas ceases to exist, when they lay down their weapons."
